The Lady Ursula (aka owllady) returned to the more carnivorous side of her personality (which is expressed through her attraction to “owls”) by her selection of links LION and EAGLE. Her choice of the link word RESEARCH reflected more her early life “Down on the Farm”. Under the theme “The Kingdom of Fife”, she finally opted this week for the link words:

Mountain LION
Highland DRESS
Fish EAGLE
Market RESEARCH

Eventually, all four links were picked off ~ but not without putting up a fight!

Many entrants were tempted by their memories of their “brief Scottish love affair” (ie Highland Fling) which was a little too obvious. Nevertheless, we did not have to wait too long before paulineward (as Entrant #3) did her MARKET RESEARCH followed by Grenmus (as Entrant #5) came in roaring as a MOUNTAIN LION ~ each picking up their TWO POINTS.

Some 13 entries later, in came regward (with the clock still at 09.03) displaying his HIGHLAND DRESS (I bet he looks cute in a kilt!) and claiming his TWO POINTS. With points hard to come by, miss meg stole a point before Handbaglady stole the show by finding the very last link (FISH EAGLE) supported by Mountain Lion for THREE POINTS and the coveted title of HOT SHOT OF THE WEEK.
*** Let trumpets sound and canons roar ***
*** The peasants cheer and shout “Encore” ***

Single points were thereafter scored by Jools, ChrisHewat & ulysses100 before this final round came to a gentle close. The question arises as to how did the “scores on the doors” end up?

The League Table after this fourth and final week is:

EIGHT POINTS: tearinghair
FIVE POINTS: Handbaglady & JOOLS
FOUR POINTS: Dustybun, Grenmus, regward, rockfordill & seekeerz
THREE POINTS: joto
TWO POINTS: 12 players
ONE POINT: 11 players

Handbaglady’s dash to the finishing line has placed her well to impress the scorer in the midst of ex-champions. Not only is she “Hot Shot of the Week”, but she qualifies to be crowned Royal Setter of the MM Link Words over the month of September. So pack your handbags, girl, and set off for London! I only ask you to contact me by email using my bespoke address, which has been created specifically for this purpose [namely [email protected]] so that we can start the ball rolling. In the meantime, this is crofter signing off.

Until we meet up again: HAPPY LINKING!

:o)

Thank you Lady ursula and crofter. Very well done, handbaglady, you'll have a whale (or should I say 'crocodile' in view of your username?) setting the links.

Thank you Lady Ursula and Crofter and well done the point scorers, although this month the parachute never opened and I crashed and burned!

Looking forward to next month with 'handbags at dawn'!
I meant 'whale of a time', of course - blame a very complicated knitting pattern fro getting me confused!
I don't know why I bothered BUT, well done Handbaglady and all the other point scorers. Thank you Lady Ursula for a very interesting August and, of course, thanks to crofter and his trusty abacus :0)
I can't believe it. What an honour for me to be the Royal Setter for September. I haven't been entering all that long compared to some of you. I'll do my very best and hope not to disappoint anyone. Good luck everyone for September.
Thanks Crofter and Lady Ursula...a very interesting month.

Congratulations handbaglady, look forward to trying to read your mind! :-))
I often go off at a tangent and have been known to be obscure at times.
