I think I'm right, Geezer, in saying that Qantas has never suffered a fatal accident. For that reason alone I refuse to ffly with them because they are obviously due one !!!

I am sure that unless they were perfectly safe to fly the Civil Airlines Authorities, would not permit them to take to the skies.

Airplanes have engine faults all the time, it is just this is a high profile, new plane. Also, QANTAS' maintenence is suspect. They have contracted it out to a low overseas bidder. It is unclear whether modifications highlighted by the European Air Safety Authority was carried out. QANTAS have had several other problems on different aircraft recently.
