I'm due to have an arthroscopy on my knee for miniscus repair and a pulled ligament ,which has caused swelling ( fluid) and stiffness.

I have an idea what the procedure involves but how long is the recovery period ? I don't like being immobilised for too long !

Thanks.

How long is a piece of string?
Depends upon what they find and what they do.
What do you mean by "immobilised?"
I'm having one of those in my hip in feb and osteochondroplasty (depending what they find I assume, doc already seems pretty sure there's a bony impingment I think)... Anyway, my letter says I could need 4-6 weeks off work afterwards.

I've had the MRI scan which shows wear and tear to the miniscus plus an injury to one of the crusciate ligaments.

By 'immobilised', Sqad I mean not being able to walk normally, say a mile or two at a time.

Thanks to you both.
Thanks derek....I would say 2-3 weeks.
derek....the meniscus is no big deal........but the cruciate lig, may delay things....but still, well within a month.

Thanks, Sqad; very helpful and reassuring. I have not been quite so active for the past week or two due to lack of work and have been doing quite a bit of sitting, often with my leg elevated. The swelling has subsided somewhat, with less pain and far fewer feelings of instability. I take it this is a positive sign ?

Thanks again - oh, and sorry for the mis-spellings. As an ex-PE teacher I should know better !

Cheers. D
