As an adult what was the first adult book you read. In my case I was 14. It was 1963 and I read Nevil Shute's The Chequer Board. I became a great fan of his and have read all his books. Some great some not so good. So over to you. What was your first adult read?
I remember reading Uncle Tom's Cabin in primary school, and being picked to read some of it out - OK to read silently, but it was all in Deep South patois and very hard to read out loud!
They were not impressed evedawn. Their answer was "Anyone who can interest a child to read a book can't be that bad" It was a Catholic school, if that makes a difference.
