I have woken up this morning with very bad pains in my upper back, around the shoulder blade area, especially on the right, my right shoulder is also painful and sudden movements cause a sharp pain across my upper back, even just turning my head to the side (particarly to the left) causes it to ache more. I've taken some paracetamol as we don't have any ibuprofen in the house but is there anything else I can do to relieve the pain? TIA
I get this quite alot, usually down to sleeping awkwardly, stress or a combination of both. I always find it helps to get someone to massage my neck and shoulder blades.
Ok, will employ my boyfriend to do that later! Is the consensus on back pain that resting doesn't help, I have work tomorrow (in a shop) which involves a lot of stretching, lifting etc and don't want to make it worse!
I can't speak from a medical point of view but I always find doing things helps it out a little. I suppose it stops you from stiffening up. It only seems worse on waking up the next day after lying in bed for 8 or so hours. But I won't tell anyone if you want to call in sick. ;o)
cheapGo to your doctor and he might sign you off work for a couple of weeks like he did with me once. Also it might be worth just paying a one of fee (about £30) to see a chiropractor if this is a regular thing as he'll then be able to show you some stretching exercises to help prevent the pain in the first place. You can also use heat patches or a hot water bottle to help ease the pain too. And lastly how old is your bed? It's well worth investing in a good one, i've really noticed the difference since i have.
Hope your feeling a bit better now xx
Thanks for all the advice, after a warm shower this morning it really eased off and then the ibuprofen finished the job; hopefully will be OK tomorrow as well! Bed was new about 18 months a go but could probably do with the mattress flipping to be honest!
