... he escaped from his cage on the way back from the vets this evening. OH and I have spent six hours combing the thick hedges, to no avail. He's either lying very low or has legged it (and is hopefully doing the Incredible Journey and finding his way back home..) - we are sad. We're going back up there first thing in the morning.

You say your cat is chipped, so all this phoning around is a bit fruitless really isn't it? If a cat gets handed in they will scan it first thing & be on the phone to you straight away. Chin up boxy, everything comes to those that wait. (I believe that)

We lost a terrier once who was at the last local vet we phoned. A kind person had left her there, having found her by a busy road( she had escaped from a friend's house).

Jem, I don't think so - we've done very little phoning other than to notify the vets etc. The issue with Rover is that he's a big cat and very hard to catch, so unless he settles somewhere (or he's ill), nobody's likely to lay a hand on him, he's too wily. He doesn't like being handled by people he doesn't know (I suspect it's something to do with his history before he came to us, he's scared of men's boots, and binliners, and fluorescent jackets). I'll just be grateful if people report sightings of him (as those two did on Saturday). I know what you mean though - but for the time being I am not doing any more, we can't possible paper the whole town, just hoping he's OK.

Boxy - I was thinking more front page of newspaper. Or is it just the Perthshire Advertiser that do non-news on the front page?

Not likely here, wolf - the big news here is about the possible privatisation of the docks, it would have to be a desperate non-news week before Rover made the front page. Councillors dressing up in silly hats are better news...

I definitely know it's true boxy about them finding their way home. When we moved, okay only a mile and a half away, we kept them in for a couple of days before letting them out. That evening our ex-neighbour phoned to say they were both sitting on the doorstep of our old home.
