Our cat Rover is missing....
... he escaped from his cage on the way back from the vets this evening. OH and I have spent six hours combing the thick hedges, to no avail. He's either lying very low or has legged it (and is hopefully doing the Incredible Journey and finding his way back home..) - we are sad. We're going back up there first thing in the morning.

They have lost horses too - how can anybody lose a horse? Rustlers?
Rover (or his 'Sunday' name) is always in my thoughts - this is more upsetting than the missing person signs and adverts.

You are all so supportive, once again AB comes to the rescue! He can manage on his own, he finds other cat-houses (that's how he found us in the first place), but if he's away too long, we are all worried about his kidney problems (particularly if he doesn't drink enough). He was so fit and well after his vet MOT, that is our one consolation - if he had to run, he is in the best possible shape to do so. Each night I mentally shout out of the attic window in the direction where he probably is - he might be far off, but hopefully he'll get the vibes!
Boxy - this is to try and keep you hopeful of you and Rover being reunited.
Years ago I worked with a girl who ended up having to leave her violent husband. She had two cats that she left with but could not take them to her rented room so they went to another colleagues on a temporary basis until she could get somewhere more permanent. Unfortunately, little Rosie Cat escaped from her temporary foster home after only a few days. My colleague and Rosie's foster mum spent weeks looking for this cat, putting up posters, calling her etc etc but nothing. My colleague resigned herself to the fact that little Rosie was long gone.
It was about 11 months later that my colleague had a call from someone to say she had seen one of the posters (which were laminated and still hanging around) and thought she had seen the cat. My colleague went there, called her and lo and behold little Rosie cat emerged. Slightly thinner and slightly more wary but there nonetheless. I have never seen anyone quite so happy and relieved.
Just don't give up hope Boxy.

Oh wow - thank you barmaid. We're not giving up hope - if he wants to find another billet, that's up to him, he's had ten good years with us after coming to us as a stray. All I want to know is that he's OK at the moment, and with all the many houses and woodland between us, that's an impossible ask. We're not giving up yet!
I've done that, wolf - the Cats Prot League has a section in both our local rags with Lost and Found catz in them. Postmen, dustmen, tip, social clubs, post offices, pubs, shops and units all round where he went missing - trying to find places not only where he might be, but where people go to from all around. It's on our staff websites at work. All vets in the area notified, too. Posters in my car as I go touring the streets - I shall get a reputation for kerb crawling, peering under bushes.
