Our cat Rover is missing....
... he escaped from his cage on the way back from the vets this evening. OH and I have spent six hours combing the thick hedges, to no avail. He's either lying very low or has legged it (and is hopefully doing the Incredible Journey and finding his way back home..) - we are sad. We're going back up there first thing in the morning.

Rover does have a tendency to be sick but it didn't look like his, I hope not.

Cats are amazing boxtops, Our cat went missing for nearly a week, I was just making a cup of cocoa one evening in the kitchen when I thought I heard a meeeow, I opened the back door and there she was sitting looking at me, a bit bedraggled but fine, - We reckoned she'd got locked in someones shed or garage by mistake.
Good Luck boxey, I'm sure he will turn up soon,
You will let us know won't you?

Box, Doc had a good idea there, The trap they set up at the vets, Is it covered over, also has he got any of of your clothing inside the cage or covering it, as Cats have a brilliant sence of smell, If he is still around he might get a whiff of you when it's not busy at the vets. It might be worth putting something in the trap that you or OH have worn but not washed... Preferably not underwear though.
It's a thought josaphine - there is food and water in the trap but it's about a quarter of a mile from where he may be at the moment. Not far in cat terms, I know! I've got to take No.1 son to the vet in the morning (oh dear...) so I will ask him then how long he wants to leave the trap there (since it's his trap).
Yes he is, jem - I've not reported him to the police, I didn't think they'd be bothered with cats. all the local vets have been informed and the poster asks people either to ring me or to take him to a vet, so they will be able to ID him from his chip. I've told the local Cats Protection League too, they will put a bit in the local paper next week under their lost and found cats section.
Just thought of what happened to us last summer. We don't have wheelie bins here still have black sacks and every morning my rubbish was all over the garden. Anyway one night I happened to be looking out the window when I spotted a cat ripping open a sack. I went out and it ran away so I put some food outside and waited. The cat came back and was obviously hungry, anyway after a few days the cat came in the house and I managed to get a good look at it, it had a scar on its nose....then....I remembered seeing a poster about a missing cat with a scar on its nose. I went out in search of the poster and it was still there with a phone number. I phoned and lo and behold it was the right cat, I kept it in my house that day till the owners came, they said it had been missing 3 months, no idea where it had been before coming to us. Anyway just to say that whilst Rover is missing leave all the posters in place.
That's a great story puss - and proves that publicity works.
I haven't put posters on lampposts yet (don't want to be charged with littering ;0( - but I'm thinking about it ) but it's so hard to know which route he could take. I have put the posters where people go - pub, club, school, supermarkets, PO, as well as through a lot of individual letterboxes.
Round here when bins get ripped, it's always the seagulls!

Thinking of you Boxtops and keep trying it will work I know it will.
I came home to find a cat in the garden, he'd left home about a mile away and teamed up with a local stray. The next day a note was posted through the door asking for any sightings of the cat. I was able to give the sighting and this morning after hunting for him for 10 days or more his owners found him just over in the next field with his new pal. They'd been mosuing and rabbiting together we think.
Another person worth asking is the postman in the area. If you can catch him he'd be a good person to keep an eye out. Also the paper boys and girls who might see him out and about early on before the world wakes up.
Thinking of you.
