Our cat Rover is missing....
... he escaped from his cage on the way back from the vets this evening. OH and I have spent six hours combing the thick hedges, to no avail. He's either lying very low or has legged it (and is hopefully doing the Incredible Journey and finding his way back home..) - we are sad. We're going back up there first thing in the morning.

We lost a cat when we were kids - didn't love him as much as the animals that I have had as an adult - but little brother and I were devastated. He never came home - I don''t blame him, I really wanted a dog. ;-)

Crumbs, ruthann - I am hopeful but waiting to see. I went back up there just now, the vet has already had calls offering help from some of our posters in the supermarket - the vet's planning to put a big trap out tomorrow to see if he comes back to the place of his escape. The other vet took the dog out again today but didn't come up with any indicators, so I suspect he's moved on. I'm more worried about him finding water to drink, than food, there are no puddles at the moment.
Oh boxy - what rotten luck. I too have only just seen this. Keep looking for local cat rescuers. I have taken in stray cats in the past and found a plethora of local rescue orgnisations - some just tiny. I contacted them all, plus local media (including radio stations) to give partial descriptions to help locate the owners of the wandering cats. I have everything crossed for you two and Rover ♥
I don't think he'll mind being called Rocky, wolf...!
Of all three cats he's the one who (I hope) is most streetwise, he strayed ten years back before he came to us. OH is hoping he's already working out how to get home, but I guess that could be a long slow process. I'm going up in the morning to inspect the trap just in case - he's either a long way from where we lost him, or perhaps coming back to see if we are still there.
