If you live with someone, can they tell if you've taken a overdose?

If you do take one how long will it take to kick in and do something serious?

She does not get on with her family, has little friends and says she's completely alone. Bless her I want to help so much. She is 26 and a beautful person, would give you the shirt off her back but everyone she meets takes the p**s and uses her for everything they can get then dumps her when she is unable to give anymore because they have left her with nothing else to give.
