When i was learning to drive, i remember my dad telling me" never presume what you don't know" ithink about it often and it's definitely helped me drive safely.
my19 year old has just got his first bike and I've passed it on.

my oh has ridden bikes since he was 11, he has a deformed knee and lower leg, one side of his face is rebuilt , when he goes through the security at manchester airport it goes off, he still has bits of tarmac that seeps through his skin after 40 years, thankfully these days people are more sensible and safety aware he was carefree and careless in his teens , the damage stays wth you,
Never, ever presume that the road around a bend is clear for you and never drive at such a speed that you cannot stop in the distance you can see to be clear
2 minutes after picking my old man up for work he said 'calm down, its not a race'. I said 'we want to get there early & have a cup of tea, don't we'
'Well get up 10 minutes earlier, then' he said.
Another, unheeded.pearl of wisdom. As they say 'youth is wasted on the young'.
keep well back from the car in front.
it never fails to amaze me how many people drive up the arses of the car in front even when they are going the speed limit.
i just cannot see the point, and it often annoys the person in front
My instructor told me' Speeding will only get you to the accident quicker'
The road is all your until someone wants to borrow half of it.
I was given two

1) Treat every other road user as stupid.

2) Drive smoothly. Imagine you've got your favourite granny in the backseat with a stonking hot cup of coffee. If she spills it in her lap, you are going to get the rest of it down your neck and get crossed out of the Will.

//good drivers are behind you, bad drivers are in front...... //

Untill the driver behind , rear ends you :-)
Drive within the limits of your headlights at night and within the limits of your vision in daylight
ie you can't see round bends or over hills so don't try to overtake where you can't see.
This is my bit of advice .

Dont get into an arguement with another driver - you never know what he/she might do - there are many mad people out there .
