"TTT...wasn't she and her policies the main reason why there was mass unemployment that needed to dealt with in the first place ? " - Usual overlooking of the effect of decade of insidious labour laws, yes unemployment increaded initially bcause they were not actual jobs, there was serious ovmanning thinned out because the law up to she changed it made it almost impossible to fire anyone.
Brenden. I can't work out if you are being serious here, or trying to be ironic.
Hague became Leader of the Tories after the Labour landslide victory in 1997. He then stayed Leader until shortly after the 2nd landslide Labour victory in 2001, when he managed to gain 1 seat more than John Major left him with 4 years earlier. He was thus the only Tory Leader, since the early 1920's that did not go on to become Prime Minister.
Hasn't he had his chance to be Leader and failed ?

I might be wrong here but after dave loses the 2015 election, the Tories will choose Boris instead of Hague. The Tories are notoriously unsympathetic to their past failures, and it would be unusual to let someone have a second bite of the cherry. But I have to admit that Hague isn't doing too bad a job as Foreign Secretary, at the moment at least.
I know ladybirder, I know ! I have been nice about the Tories twice on AB today...I must be getting more mellow in my old age !
In his defence, Hague has a nearly impossible job to do at the moment, with Putin rattling the Russian saber. Its very difficult to see what the West can do about the Ukrainian situation, something that Putin is exploiting to its fullest extent. It can, and might get a whole nastier before the fat lady gets to sing. Watch this space !

I hope its not over-confidence TTT.
My confidence is carefully calculated and is based on everything that I can see and read. dave has made no real inroads into Labours lead in all the Polls for nearly 4 years, and it appears that he is on the ropes over the forthcoming Euro elections in a few days time. The situation may change in the next 11-12 months of course, but there is no evidence yet that it will.

so you are certain, so what price the Tories, I assume as it's a certainty you'd lay me 100-1? No?

these are the odds that people are prepared to lay, Labour the favourites but 5/4 the Tories not exactly outsiders!

For Viv and Farriercm...Re avatars, when someone criticised me a few years ago for not having one, I replied, "I can think of no reason why anyone over the age of thirteen would really want one."
Clearly failing to grasp the difference between childLIKE and childISH - the same person said I had accused everyone else on AB of being the latter. Utter nonsense, of course, so - if you're happy being avatar-free, as I've been for twelve years - stick with it!
(I wonder if he remembers who I'm talking about.)

Oh yes, TTT, my lack of an avatar is by choice rather than an inability to acquire one!
In religious terms, an avatar is the manifestation of a deity whilst, in more human terms, it is the glorification of a principle. In Internet terms, it is just supposed to be a representation of someone.
My problem with them in the last sense is to do with the fact that so many people who DO have one keep on changing it! How truly 'representative' can an image be, if it is so evanescent? Are these people all chameleons?
