Indeed divebuddy, that's what I meant. Forgot my timeline for a moment!

But why was 1933 significant for Mosley? And why do the other lefties on here keep refering to 1933 and the Nazi Party coming to power then?

Merely an attempt to smear UKIP by association with the Nazi party. It is doomed to failure. It appears to me that many, especially on the left, are running really scared of UKIP at the moment. If they are of no consequence, as many will claim, why bother giving them all the oxygen of publicity? To dredge up a two year old leaked phone call smacks of desperation.
There is a parallel with Oswald Mosely.

Mosely was an elected LABOUR MP but chose to form the NEW Party and fought a By Election in a safe Labour seat near Manchester in 1931.

He managed to split the Labour vote, which resulted in a Conservative win.

Farage will split the Conservative vote in many constituencies in 2015, letting in Labour.
Just to claify, the NEW Party fought the seat, not Mosely.
Before he became an elected Labour MP Mosley was an elected Tory MP.

Chilldoubt- unfortunately, I do not ha d the memory, nor education to be able succinctly summarise the major news events of the 20th century. I know that the 9/11 attacks happened in 2001, Princess Diana died in 1999, and that England won the World Cup in 1966. Beyond that, I'm pretty vague on national events.

But to me - 1933 is 'the thirties' and I associate that with the rise of the Blackshirts.

If the reference was to 1943, I would have thought of the Nazis.

I appreciate that the Nazi party was around in the thirties, I just don't associate them with that decade.
Diana died in 1997.

Really?

Just goes to show how bad with dates I am.
By the way - I would not say that i 'hate' UKIP.

I just detest some of the views held by a portion of its members. What I actually hate the hypocracy of the party.

If you stand for free speech and you are against 'political correctness', have the balls to support your members (and/or prospective MPs) when they voice their opinions.

What on earth are UKIP doing jettisoning Kerry Smith?

Why not reposition UKIP as 'the party that says what the man on the street thinks'?

I would wager that those who support UKIP on AB and further afield in the country are not bothered by what Mr Smith said, so why not keep him?

Are the pooftah, chinky and peasant vote that important?

And isn't 'pooftah' spelled 'poofter'?
Seems like judicial and public enquiries are like London buses. The ex Labour leader Blair squirms and wriggles and is very economical with the truth when it comes to explaining the legitimate reasons for waging war against Iraq(WMD) as a poodle to his fellow looney Bush. Now it looks like another enquiry will be convened and Blair will be summoned to give evidence regarding complicity to rendition which occurred on his watch along with Straw and David Milliband. No doubt more mendacity to follow from this dangerous self serving maniac at the next enquiry.Just like London buses. Labour should have a health warning.( All the civilian deaths in Iraq as well as our coalition military) "I was only following orders" of President Bush.Whatever "horlicks" UKIP may provide the looney left their track record is clean with regarding "War crimes" that should be or may soon be investigated. Some UKIP members may say nasty things ,but ,Labour organise atrocities. A comparison made between UKIP and the Nazi party?.Who is having a laugh here?. Just to repeat myself from an earlier post. I am not a UKIP voter but I certainly know who I would prefer to be a serious contender in the next General Election and it won't be Labour!!!
I've been thinking the same thing, retro. All the misery those self-serving, venal, lying, expense-fiddlers visited on the people of this country. Yet now they throw their hands up in horror at a few non PC words in a 2 year old private phone call.
Of course, it's why Political Correctness was developed by the left. Deflection from the real crimes being carried out in their name and to stifle debate as they managed with mass-immigration for 15 years. If it weren't for UKIP I believe it would probably be a crime to even mention it now.
I was with you until you said "I've been thinking..."
it must be hard for you, gromit, but try to keep up.
I would wager that those who support UKIP on AB and further afield in the country are not bothered by what Mr Smith said, so why not keep him?
--------------------
Why would I endorse such comments? Yes, I'm going to vote for the first time ever in a General Election and it will be for UKIP but I wouldn't want the views of a clown like Smith to be representative of me.

They were all, of course, referring to the Nazis. Until someone pointed out what a disgraceful shower they are. Pathetic back-track instead of apologising or sticking to their guns.
