iphone game Emerald Mine

I am stuck on an iphone app game called emerald mine, World 1 level 7 as it is touch screen I don't know how to fire, it used to be an old computer game with jotstick

1st gen ipod touch

I have a first gen ipod touch, not used it for a while, now the sound only works through the ear phones not without them, any ideas as to why? TIA
