Recycling broken glass

I've broken a glass. It's in two neat pieces because it broke because of the hot water I think. I would usually wrap it in newspaper or something like that, and then stick it in the black refuse bag....

dvd rewriter. keeps ejecting the dvd and now is stuck inside

any tips to get it out? and get it working again? I would be happy to take the back off as it is no longer under guarantee, but if anyone can give me an ide wht to look for and what perhaps need doing...
