I would like to acknowledge that there are some accounts that have been created by our moderators, to help them control the community, without breaking their normal identity.

Having multiple AnswerBank accounts is against site rules. However, these accounts have been approved by the Editors.

These moderators will be added to this thread, and you should give them as much respect as you would give to an Editor.

If you are a moderator, and would like to have one of these accounts, please send us an email.

Zacsmaster - It looks like I started all of this last night. In the past I removed posts and had to watch as a row breaks out about who was responsible and why. I can now use my usual name to remove the posts and explain why in my secretmod name. I will also be able to warn posters to kerb their tempers and it might result in less suspensions happening.

Khandro, it's easy all you need to is
This is horrible. Bedtime for me. Night all.
Well, OK, let’s see how all this pans-out. Should be interesting.
SPICERACK, a thread could be easily sidetracked by a discussion about a single deletion with the poster defending the post and the Mod justifying the deletion.

Imagine if there were deletions involving multiple folk, it would not help the debate if each person questioned each and every deletion.

It might also be the case that different Mods deleted posts within a thread and if not all the Mods involved had a second name, only some deletions might be explained.
The section was Law.
oldchestnut asked a question which required proper answers not an old personal anecdote and a youtube song.
I won't tell people how to think but I will remove inappropriate answers. That works.
I wish to waive my anonymity- I am not a mod. But whether I am a secret one is something I wish to keep a secret. Hope this helps.
SPUNGLE, "As in, it begs the question, why keep the Mod secret if we all know who it is?"

You'd not know that Mod's regular name, would you?
But why are you continuing the debate? A mod should do what they feel is right, explain why it’s been done and leave it at that. Continuing to debate the reasons is just weak and perpetuates (or creates) an argument.
Zacsmaster - When I make my first removal or deletion I will explain the reasons etc. and hopefully it will be accepted. We will have to see if ABers all jump on me and moan or demand added explanations. I hope not.
If the offending post from KHANDRO has not been re-instated, it's deletion was justified so there is little point in arguing the rights and wrongs of the decision.
Khandro was right, and was totally on point. I can understand why the Mod wants to remain secret after that ridiculous intervention.
Giving them more than one explanation is exactly what should not be happening. There’s either moderation or there’s debate. If it’s the latter then the new measures won’t do diddly to improve the site.
Seems there are more moderators than rank and file members.

Surely TCL has managed to get the call up by now?
No, I don't understand. Surely if the Mods are secret but we guess who they are they are no longer secret? I mean, it's pretty obvious who 'Secretmod' is, isn't it??
ZACS, I agree with you about not justifying deletions as it just prolongs the discussion.

If a Mod wants to issue a warning, that's fair enough but discussions about deletions are not allowed anyway.

However, if a Mod chooses to justify a deletion, that should be the end of the matter and no further discussion should take place.
People asking questions in the Law Section want to see answers from someone like Barmaid not a story from 60 years ago accompanied by a music video. If you can't see that then you are also part of the problem.
I wouldn't want to hear anything from Barmaid, personally. Khandro all the way, with Jonny Cash. But it's a matter of taste, not a matter of moderation. With all due respect, Your Secrecy.

I've only skimmed the thread but I am sure that has been mentioned?
I see the completely unnecessary insults in secret-mode has started.
Mods need to be factual and leave it at that. If they want to give opinions, this should be done as their normal AB persona, otherwise they have an unfair advantage.
This is EXACTLY what I feared would happen.
I had to check the date while reading all this, felt sure it must be April Fool's Day.....

Sorry but it just sounds so ridiculous to me.

Memo to self...I must start taking it all seriously. :0)
