Starting radiotherapy tomorrow.
96 Answers
Hi. I have metaplastic carcinoma and am about to embark of radiotherapy tomorrow. I had a lumpectomy in November. Is there anyone out there who has also been given radiotherapy for this cancer, if so, how did you get on? I am wondering if it will help me.
Any info. greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your message Mark.
I have searched the web. for any info. and am still confused.
My oncologist is kind, but said that this cancer is rare and gave me
a print-out from one of the sites I had already found.
I just wanted to know if anyone else had found having treatment
5 days a week for four weeks actually made a difference. I will have to
travel quite a long way each day which sounds a nightmare. Still if it helps it will be worth it. dx

hi deanna,
my mum had a 5 day, 4 week course of radiotherapy a few months ago after having a lumpectomy for her breast cancer, and it all went well.
she did feel a little tired and weary some days, but it was nothing too bad, and the skin around the area where she was having the treatment got a little dry and sore, but applying aqeous cream to it helped loads.
(if you're going to your appointments by car, you will hopefully get a pass so you dont have to pay car parking charges, like we did when mum was going)
a big hug goes out to you for tomorrow, deanna, you'll be fine, don't worry, they'll really look after you really well x
let us know how it goes?

Thanks for that link Anna86.
I had found that site and some of the information is repeated on other ones, but the oncologist has told me that chemo. won't work with my particular strain neither will hormone type therapies. He said they have not had evidence of what will actually work but he has recommended radiotherapy anyway. I just hate the idea of going through this and it not being of any benefit. At the moment I have no discomfort and have healed well, and the idea of the side effects of the treatment if it isn't going to make any difference doesn't appeal. If it wasn't the fact that my daughter and my friends are nagging me, I would leave well alone and take my chances. Is it wrong to think this way? dx

no, its not wrong to think as you are, but if your oncologist recommends this treatment, id say do it, and i do believe not everyone has bad side effects of radiotherapy, but do expect to be quite tired, its good to hear you have friends and family nagging you, a wee prayer from mr tonight, and keep us up to date. take care anne.
