That’s Buddlia. Very attractive to butterflies so keep it if you can but cut it back in the autumn to the height it is now as it will grow tall and wide otherwise.

Well that looks very much like the wild version of buddleia to me, the type that grows beside railway lines etc. So not exactly a weed, will have pale purple flowers and take up a lot of space.

Most likely a wild form of Buddleia davidii (Butterfly Bush) Self seeds easily. There are other colours available from garden centres. Pink, white, purple,dark blue/purple is attractive. Even the wild form is great for attracting butterflies to your garden. I have 3 of various colours plus self sown seedings from last year.

It can get very tall. My neighbour cut one back that was taller than the house!

Many years ago I planted one from a twig that I cut off a bush which the Council were forever cutting back and wouldn't let it grow. You should see it now !! It took over my small yard/garden and has frequently had to be cut back over the years because otherwise there would have been no room for me to move around. It is taller than my house and grows over next door, but I have a lovely neighbour who just cuts the offending branches off and disposes of them for me. At first it used to attract loads of butterflies, but in the last few years I have been lucky if I see a cabbage white or two. There are always loads of bees on it though, they love it as well and the birds started coming to my garden as it got bigger and bigger and I feed them every day now. A little (or large) oasis in my corner of the town !

If you like it leave it in the ground. If you do not want it, pull it out and plant something else nice there.
