I bet shoe stores in this heat, and the swellings of feet that follow, are even worse! Yes,I do love my john wayne films, like my daddy before me.We used to watch him in one room, while my mother and sister stayed in the other room! The end scene, framed in the doorway,IS the searchers,i think.Even thinking about it gives me goosebumps! and of course,i always cry,cos he just seems so separate from everyone at that point.Horrible though it is,i also love the scene where they realise the indians are about to attack. It's just so atmospheric and claustrophobic.I have a picture of a friend with the john wayne picture in monument valley, abd its great that you have that of your dad.My husband is a big john wayne fan too,so we indulge in great movies every now and then!

Dad named us all: Marian, John, Dorothy (Lamour!) and Susan (Heywood) ! That is how much of a fan he was.
On another thread, have you seen:

I was a bit bothered by it.

kept checking to see if u had picked up on this. The more I go back to the site the more riled I get. If it does turn out to be something tasteless I will be on their case, but I am giving the author the benefit of the doubt at the moment. It might be something to do with Hannibal or Smith, let's hope!
Hello, everyone. I only recently became a member of this site, being brought here after finding it during a google (one of many) search for anything new on Pete Duel. Shortly after I made my first post, I came back to check and see if anything new about my bright and shining cowboy had been posted only to find that about 1/4 of the posts in the thread had disappeared. Being an inquiring type, I set out to find out why and discovered the confrontational posts that made one of your long-time visitors leave the board. After that, I felt uncomfortable as a newbie so I didn't post again.
But today I'm just thinking so much about Pete, having recently returned from a get-together of fans in the States in celebration of the new ASJ book coming out soon, that I just needed to come back one more time to let you know how much I miss him. I think some of you can understand my feelings...I hope.
There were about 25 women at the book party. It was held in California and people came from as far away as New Jersey, I think. It was nice to get the opportunity to meet a few other fans of the television show and its stars. Roger Davis showed up in person and Ben Murphy was there via speaker phone. It was really wonderful to hear Ben's voice. He sounds just as sweet now as he did 34 years ago. The only person missing was Pete. : (
dot--I can do better than that. If you go to this thread on the asjcollection, there are all sorts of stories and anecdotes that people have posted about the book party. Start at about page 11 for the posts that take place after the event. It's really fun reading!

Hope that link works.
lindapinda, thank you for your kind words. As I said, Pete is what drew me to this board and so far this is the only thread I've posted in. I can't get enough of that man.
The book itself has not actually even been received by any one yet, as far as I know. All the orders were pre-orders and they are only being shipped the end of this past week. I got an email saying mine was being shipped this past Friday. I'm sure there will be lots of discussion about it once people start receiving and devouring their copies. Just hope there are no 'bad surprises' for Pete fans in it.
I'll let you know more once I get my copy.
got to fly to work, Sunday and all! My daughter has grown up with pictures and talk about Pete and she never commenst on it all, like all three of my kids they just are aware the face is always about.
Read some of the postings on the book bash and I now feel I have so missed out, I could have gone if I had been checking out the AS&J Collection site, I havn't used it for years.
Hi, lindapinda. Well, the book is a great reference for all things ASJ. It includes an episode summary for each episode followed by episode notes, regarding different things that happened during the development and filming of each week's show. For my personal taste, being completely devoted to Pete Duel, it didn't include enough new material relating to him. A lot of the things said about him in the book were referenced from several old magazine articles, the full text of which can be found on the asjcollection.com site.
There were a few stories from an old college friend of his that were nice to read and one small tidbit from Kim Darby. The authors were asked (on the asjcollection message board) if Kim told them anything else about Pete that they could share and they said that she talked at length about him but most of what she said was confidential and off the record. So that was a huge disappointment to me. I was hoping to hear more about Pete. So far, I haven't read the whole book (I skipped the parts about Roger) but I'm sure that one day I'll go back and read it again from the beginning.
Wow,your husband really IS understanding! Mine has always known that Pete was my big hero, but I've never "hobbied" as much as you! I think he's amazed that I have my collection of videos and scrapbook, and me a grown woman! I don't have any children, but my 23yr old neice who lives with us,is also amused to see her aunt sighing over pictures on a website! It seems to be that once Pete gets into your soul, there's no losing him!
HI lindapinda, GOSH!.... I was going through my profile tonight looking for a thread I'd posted about Leave in Conditioner and noticed there was more answer's on your Pete Duel thread, so being a nosy I had a look, and to think I nearly missed a message from Artful! what a lovely surprise but I was sad to find that she had lost her father. I had to read the other post's too from dothawkes and Belle G about Pete and the book which I found really interesting and the link to AS/J web site. xxx :-)
HI Artful, if you ever get to read this we just want to say that Bruce and I really miss our little chats with you, I just want to say how very sorry we are to hear of the loss of your father and we are sending you our deepest sympathies to you and your family. Take care and God Bless. LOL from Bruce and cat woman xxx :-)
