Seems like the guy who was attacked did nothing more than walk past minding his own business, unless of course someone can find a link with more info.

The edl claim to be 'Peacefully protesting against militant Islam' Shame no one thought to tell this guy that.

It's a shame that you reported it, B00, although I understand your reasoning given the ill-feeling with which some of the older contributors were posting

I just felt that as certain members regurgitate, day after day after day, similar threads using the language I used, it might be interesting to see where posting a diametrically opposite thread would take us.........

And perhaps we would have been able to show them that the very same words they would use to defend this thug can be rightly used when the bovver-boot is on the other foot. It's a shame that we'll not be able to see quite where it would have led.

Still, I suspect that this will now mean an end to all similarly contentious threads in this issue.........posted from whichever corner.
It'll have lead the way they all go Jack, c'mon, you know that one!

Alot of spit, cyber eye poking and my dad is bigger than your dad blustering....then pulled.

I'm all for debates- but when they degenerate into personal attacks, they stop being fun to read and eye openers and just turn ugly, and they always turn out the latter way :-(
So long as the "EDL" remain the thuggish moronic knuckle draggers they seem to be, I'll be happy with that - no one will take them seriously on a political level.
I didn't see any personal attacks on the thread yesterday. People with opposite points of views, a bit of sighing, but no personal attacks.
incidentally, my apologies to Safiya for dragging this thread off course with a throwaway remark; I should have heeded jth's earlier warning not to do this. Anyway, I wholly agree with your post; the EDL are not the pussycats they like to pretend to be
I have only just come on, but I see I have even been mentioned on here.

Good job I was also not tuned in last evening when JTH's thread was pulled, else I would have been blamed for that.

To get back on track, while I do not condone in any way such uncalled for violence, I also do not know all the details behind this attack to make a true comment.

But enough to say having read JTH's lines.

/// The article certainly seems to give lie to the fact that the EDL are a peaceful' group, doesn't it ? ///

One could also say that after reading an article about a Muslim terrorist attack, one could then say "that certainly seems to give a lie to the fact that all Muslims are a peaceful lot"

/// Although, I should imagine its apologists will trot out the 'one bad apple' nonsense, or claim 'passive provocation'.......///....

Now are not similar words trotted out 'All Muslims are not terrorists' or claim it is because we have invaded their lands, nonsense.

You see it can work against both a minority of Muslims and a minority of EDL members, one cannot say only one minority are the bad guys.

A closing note however in the case of the EDL member attacking a Muslim, the Muslim walked away.

Which isn't the case for some, when a Muslim terrorist attack takes place.
Your a braver woman than me B00 for admitting you reported the thread, but I also reported it, but if I had admitted this first, I would have been torn to pieces, verbally on here.

I felt the thread was delibrately posted to incite and argument not a discussion.
Well I'm seriously NOT into censorship - even if posts do degenerate into slanging matches, I believe things should be left to run their course. If someone doesn't like what's going on within ONE thread, they can always not open it ...can't they ?
What are we supposed to do, just talk about fluffy bunnies and chocolate fairy cakes all day ?
^^ an ^^
Looks like it AP....
"I felt the thread was delibrately posted to incite and argument not a discussion".
I didn't - I thought it redressed a balance.
just looked at this thread, glad I have not contributed.

agree with AP, which is why Im burgering off
Perhaps that's something you should take up with the Ed then AP? After all, they, the editorial team added the report button to be used on the site. If it's available, and I personally don't like a thread, i see it as my right to use it. I'm not asking for others to agree with me (though it would be nice!), but in last night instance, others (including Den) obviously agreed with me.
Does that mean that all posts regarding Racism will no longer be allowed because the racists on the site will seek evermore aggressive ways of justifying their prejudices ?

I really, really didn't want Safiya's thread to be about anything other than the unprovoked attack by an EDL thug on a young Asian Man but we have digressed to defining what a '/' really means and whether stating what you have inferred from a comment is tantamount to a 'misquote'.....

I am certainly hacked off...........very.......however, I shall calm down.
But I think a close eye will now be kept for an even-handed application of the rule for argumentative threads getting pulled.
Nobody would condone an attack of anybody, but there does seem to be a lot of 'lets try and find out who is racist on AB' type of threads, and if the editorial team didn't agree, they would not have pulled, if it had been 1 or 100 reported it.
Boo. Though I disapprove of censorship etc. I also respect the Site Rules and whether I like it or not I will go along with whatever decisions are made as regards shutting people up. Their house, their rules.
Of course you are at liberty to get threads pulled willy nilly if that's what you want to do, it just makes me wonder why you would want to open a thread the contents of which you know you're not going to like.
DEN, that's just silly considering this type of thing is in the news on a daily basis.
Well if it keeps you wondering, it keeps you off the streets eh AP?

;-)
AP - how to we know we are not going to like it ? if its a good debate, then its interesting, but when the slanging match starts, then it becomes tedious.
What slagging match? I didn't see any name calling yesterday....so what is a slagging match?
