In view of this and other such incidents, plus the calls for a nation wide ban on the burka falling on deaf ears, I wonder if for security reasons it would be lawful for banks, shops, travel agents etc to ban anyone wearing a burka from entering their premises?

Wearing a burka over my motorcycle helmet certainly fools them in the bank.

I wonder how these minority groups would react if others chose to wear a Klu-Klux-Klan type of garment?

For starters there would no doubt be a nation wide ban on the wearing of them.

Perhaps it would also be a good idea for Far-Right groups to wear the burka on their demos?

Or in the name of cultural cohesion, perhaps we could have a nation wide 'burka wearing day'?

"Perhaps it would also be a good idea for Far-Right groups to wear the burka on their demos?" - why? I don't get the reasoning behind that.

Ban Father Christmas from shops too. There have been numerous Robberies where the robber has disguised himself as Santa.

// Merseyside Police is appealing for information following an armed robbery at a store on the retail park last Thursday evening (21st December).

At around 8.30pm, the mobile phone store was closing up and, as staff were letting one of the remaining customers out of the shop, three men dressed in Santa suits forced their way in. //

And

//TWO men dressed as Santa Claus have been robbing people of their Christmas cash, police revealed today.

The pair pounced as their victims withdrew money from hole-in-the-wall machines at night in Weymouth town centre. //

/// KKK outfits are banned for inciting racial hatred the burka is not - Derrr!! ///

Don't you think the burka also incites racial hatred, or doesn't it work that way round?

Now there's a surprise.

Well never mind we will just have to settle for a national burka day, perhaps then they might get banned.

so you want to ban something for "inciting racial hatred" because racists hate it!!
Did your parents never teach you right from wrong as you seem to be getting it all a bit confused!!
At the end of the day, they are not worn for religious purposes, if this was the case then I would be more understanding, but they are not! It's just rudeness! Certain places have banned hoodies and bike helmets (as people have already said) because it hides peoples identies, so why should the Burka be any different? What are those things called that criminals wear to hide their faces on tv and stuff? Maybe the everyday person should start wearing those, same principle, no religius basis behind it x

There's no law against it, but I'm aure I'd be picked up for it though
**sure**
it's cultural though roxie, which is considered by law, as in the case with the young lad kicked out of school for wearing corn-rows that was discussed a few weeks back. They don't ware burkas just to be rude or to appear intimidating (which is the case with scallies in hoodies).
having gone through the entire thread, i have come to the conclusion that you all have your opinions of what should and shouldn't be allowed, all are valid, But no one in the British government is going to ban it. Too many women in Britain wear it for that to happen, and like France it is unenforceable. Three quarters of the women in this area wear the Hijab, burkha, and no i don't like it, and i am sorry if that doesn't find favour with some, but i am past explaining.
Pixi i read recently that many young Muslim women are choosing to wear the Hijab, Burkha now, as a show of solidarity with their culture, where they wore western style dress before, hence my point.
but then not everyone that wears hoodies are chavs, so having a ban on them seems unfair..
I'd agree with that roxie, it is unfair, but then most non-chavvy people would walk around with one up unless it was raining and I don't think too many shop keepers / bank clerks etc would be too bothered about some respectable looking chap walking in from torrential rain with their hood up.
