Smoking Ban in Cars

When they crack down on mobile phone use in cars which is illegal, I'll give it some serious thought.

(Ok mobile's with ear phones or whatever they are called is allowed)

Smoking and driving is as dangerous as texting and driving and should be banned.

Do these "do-gooders" honestly think that smokers in cars smoke with all the windows closed?? All my smoke goes out the window and I would never smoke with children in the car.

Not read all the other answers but I think this is one of the most stupid suggestions I've heard for a while.

If you own your car why is it anybody elses business whether you smoke in it or not?

And are they then expecting the police to pull over every person who they see smoking? I'd really rather the police spent their time more important matters.

Like anyone with any sense, I think smoking in a car with kids is disgusting. I was parked next to a girl at Sainsbury`s a while ago who got her kids in the car, shut the windows and lit up. I can`t believe people can still be so ignorant. I think the anti-smoking league has jumped on the issue of people smoking on cars because it`s just another place they can ban it. They want to ban it from everywhere. They are doing it under the guise that it`s a driving distraction but I wouldn`t put it in the same league as using a mobile etc. If smoking should be banned in cars, then so should talking to your passenger, switching on the radio, putting a sweet in your mouth and itching your nose.

Peop;e always seem to compare smoking and drinking. Yes, they are both stimulants (or depressants?). The difference as I see it is the human body was designed to drink fluids and has a liver to remove toxins from the blood(in moderation). However, the body was never designed to inhale smoke and when it does, damage occurs.
The problem with smoking is that it is impossible to keep it solely for the smoker, every one else has to énjoy' the experience. If people want to smoke, then do it in isolation. If people want to drink to excess and become absolute nightmares them do it in a locked room,

Yes, and I wonder if the police will conduct a softly, softly approach on who they pull up?

There was enough stink went up when they introduced a 'stop and search' operation.

Smoking a fag while driving is no-where near as distracting as texting .. phoning .. phoning and having a remote conversation .. chattering to passengers in car .. checking hair in rear view mirror .. doing make-up in rear view mirror .. reading map directions .. pi$$ing around with satnav .. eating sandwiches and drinking tea ...
There are far more things to ban first.

I think AlBags has a made a good valid point may i add SB's to the list of things to ban before we hit the smokers again.

SB's stands for Smelly Bikers those who think the road is a race track just for them.

Don't get me going about Satnavs. I was crossing a one-way street when a numpty turned into it (the wrong way) and hooted at me. I did argue the point but apparently as a pedestrian I should have been aware that drivers make mistakes. Duh. They were in a vehicle with Company logo on it. Who made the mistake then? :)

Smoking with children in the vehicle and in the same room is a no-no.

I am a smoker and a driver and have been happily doing both for more than 30 years. I enjoy smoking and for as long as I can afford to do it then I will - that's MY CHOICE and my right. (and I pay a lot of tax to the government for the privilege!!)
I am no longer allowed to smoke in pubs/restaurants/public places and that's I accept that but I feel very strongly that I should be able to light up when I am alone in my own car. I would never smoke with children in the car with me and would ask any adult if they minded me smoking - if they did, then I wouldn't do it.
What's next? Some do-gooder knocking on my front door to tell me I can't smoke in my own house

If this is taken to it's logical conclusion, once they have banned smoking in cars because it affects the passengers then the next step is to ban the car,That affects far more people then the odd cigarette.
Also, when I took the driving test hand signals were given, I spent most of the test with one hand on the wheel, strange how it was considered safe then.

I don't remember any of (some of) you here complaining about smoking in restaurants or cafes and other places where smoke can be a nuisance until it was banned .. Get the point?

What's next to ban will be eating, drinking and listening to music/radio while driving. Finally driving altogether will be banned. Gawd!
I smoke alone in my car, never smoked when my child was with me. It is now the only place where I can smoke sitting down in the warm.

I have a car with a manual gearbox.

If I drive it through Town, I spend a lot of time with only one hand on the wheel, while changing gear.

Presumably manual cars will soon be banned on safety grounds. I'd better look for a replacement.
