hi shari - one of my friends educated both children at home - one is now a solicitor and the other is at uni. both are nice people to meet (despite their mother) (can i run fast enough?)
This topic really riles people - it's done, give it a rest. Are you going to start moaning again about the cost of the christening for the new Royal baby when it arrives, or for the forthcoming Royal funerals for our Royal elderlies?
Lol yes except the very oldest of us we've all never gone to school at all and most have done Uni. Being home schooled shouldn't disadvantage anyone at all xx
Probably boxtops...its the price we pay for living in a democracy that values free speech I suppose.
boxy, but Thatcher wasn't Royal, she only thought that she was.
Not if it's done right, Shar -- and I believe it usually is. Would never have worked for e and my family, I'm glad I went to school. And that turned out all right, too. It's all about what works best for the children -- great that it's worked for you.
sharingham. I am genuinely interested in your being home schooled. Do you know why your parents didn't send you to school, and how did you manage difficult subjects, like the sciences, without the use of science classrooms and laboratory's ? Its been many years since I did my Chemistry exams but I can't imagine doing the practical works on the kitchen table !
She didn't ask for a semi-state funeral, tony - the Queen wanted to attend, it wasn't the deceased's decision.
tonyav...I am remembering a sketch done at a Labour Party conference about the new £1 coin. It went something like "its called a Maggie because its brassy and thinks its a sovereign ! )
Ok then, boxy.
On topic...whatever it cost was too much.

Off topic......Ed will soon have to create a new topic on Shar's home schooling. ;-) x
LOL, excellent Mikey.
Mike, so I don't bore everyone witless again, Gness posted a question which I explained a fair bit in a while ago which is here. If you want any further info please let me know xx

Mikey...most of what I put on my kitchen table could pass for a Chemistry experiment.......:-)
Thanks shari...most informative

Doesn't one have to be a certain age to be a member of AnswerBank?

Personally I think it is inappropriate for a child to be mixing in with an adult's debating forum.

If mature ABers are not aware that they are debating with fellow adults, it can be embarrassing for the child to read certain things that come out in general adult discussion, some things I have read on here, even make me blush.
gness ...you will really have to stop boiling your potatoes in copper sulphate ...I know it makes them a nice colour, but its just not safe !
mikey, gness likes doing errrrr unsafe lol.
It's surely the decision of the parents of that child, and the child him- or herself.

So if Sharingan wants to read "embarrassing stuff" - her choice. Besides, it shows a good engagement with the modern world, a willingness to learn, discuss, debate, argue and get involved. Bet that didn't happen so much in the past - whether or not it is a good thing overall remains to be seen. But I've been exposed to so much more of the world's culture, knowledge and opinions than my parents ever were.
AOG- I'm sorry you find it ' inappropriate' that young people can and do take an interest in the very politics that affect them now and in their future adult life. The Editor of this site is fully aware of how old I am and I am not, I don't think, the youngest AB member by quite a long way.
I can say with my hand on my heart that I have never read anything even vaguely shocking on AB, and do at times moderate my own language and behaviour to make sure I do not cause any embarrassment to the people on here with whom I speak, but thank you for your concern.
Although you are unhappy about debating with someone my age I am afraid that I rather enjoy it so have no plans to leave at any point in the foreseeable future.
