Anti-Ukip Campaign Good For Ukip?
Everyday we see stories in our newspapers attacking UKiP and Farage. These stories from papers supporting the Conservatives and Labour are designed to put voters off them, but there is evidence it is having the opposite effect.

Don't they say there is no such thing as bad publicity? I'm sure whatever knocks UKIP are taking is not only giving them the publicity they want but maybe making them the underdog for people to give them the sympathy vote. Can't stand Farage myself though, however it's not the person you vote for it's their ethos/manifesto isn't it. I think we've gone too far in handing over our country to Europe, I would like to see us out of it but that won't be anytime time with the usual suspects running the country and selling our souls.

Yes, and I've said so on other threads. People sense a sort of smear campaign, and they don't like it. They feel patronised and insulted by it.
Whether the other parties like it or not people have been listening to Farage and identifying with what he's saying, so when Cameron and the rest attempt to dismiss them with 'swivel eyed loon' insults and accusations of racism, he's basically insulting the voters as well. It's a fundamental mistake to insult your customers, as Gerald Ratner could tell you.
The same thing is happening with the Scottish independence, where we're seeing a boost to the 'yes' campaign following all sorts of people being wheeled out to tell the Scots they'll be responsible for the end of civilisation as we know it if they're 'stupid' enough to vote for independence.

Looks like the main parties are missing a trick. People will vote for these new emerging parties as a protest vote; the electorate know they are not well established political parties able to run the country.
Give the people what they want! Rather than running scared, the main parties should listen to the electorate and take their concerns on board.

Yet more name calling from those wishing to frighten the electorate from voting for UKIP.
UKIP is not a far right party, it may be far right from the wishy washy liberal left, but would be on the Right side of the political spectrum as it once was.
This is because what we once knew as the Right, has now merged much closer to the Centre Left position of politics, made possible by the likes of a weak Tory leader joining up with the Liberals.
Hence the popular belief, "the three parties seem all the same nowadays".

I think it is somewhat stupid for Labour and the Tories to have jumped on the anti-UKIP bandwagon rather than make a positive case for themselves. But the downpour of criticism UKIP has been receiving is well-earned. Their candidates keep coming out with appaling things, the party has failed completely to control itself.
I'm sick of all the main parties too. But Farage has failed every attempt at scrutiny - and frankly I find it depressing that people are still willing to make excuses for him. I will be watching UKIP's successful candidates very closely - for those of you that put them there - you reap what you sow.

it did hit the nail on the head, we are full to brimming, paper over more of England why don't you, with endless boxes called housing estates, which cannot be undone, whether there is a demand because of too many people, and more coming in, or that we need to house our own, stop the rot, no more people for a period of time until we are out of the woods economically speaking. Lets get rid of the foreign criminals, the terrorists, the half wits who go and fight for a country most haven't heard of, unless they do the decent thing and get themselves killed. I have no sympathy with them whatsoever. Stop translating every bloody document into any known language, stop teaching the English language in schools to foreign pupils, let them pay, same as we have to in France, Spain, Germany, etc.

How you can write such a sentence and begin it by accusing someone of being "ill educated" is a bit beyond me. What exactly is an "economically downward spirally" person?

The idea of an immigration freeze is not "common sense." It is an idea which some people agree with and some people do not - and for perfectly good reason. The people who agree with a freeze tend to be on the right, and more specifically on the far right. This isn't meant as an insult. I'm not trying to delegitimise anyone. I just don't see how this tendency is anything but obvious.

Why don't people simply listen to what he (Farage) actually says? On this evening's news it was reported that prince Charles has said unofficially that Putin's actions over the Crimea were akin to those of Hitler and the Jews - an appalling gaffe, and completely inaccurate and unfounded. Messrs' Milliband and Clegg were quick to suggest that this was simply a point of view to which he is entitled, Nigel Farage on the other hand showed the gumption to state categorically that he was wrong to say such a thing.
