I know this is going away from your OP, but.......have you any clue about the extraordinary variety of music, entertainment, arts, etc at Glastonbury?

You seem to be stuck in some archetypal bubble that all Glastonbury Attendees are depraved, dope smoking dead beats.

Ummm...perhaps I don't move in the same circles as you but I don't think I know any drugs users, and have no wish to.

That honestly surprises me coming from someone who does this, that and the other within the community.

I'm 62, haven't been to Glasto since 2008, I was quite ill 2009, then haven't had the time since, however I officially retire at the end of this month, so will be looking to do next years. It's a brilliant atmosphere, no-body gives a hoot who or what you are, you just get on with enjoying it.
Anyone like to wager a fiver about how clean Glyndebourne is? ;-)

Sqad....its part of the fascism of youth. I had to plead with my father to let me go to the Isle of Wight when I was 16, because he had never heard of Bob Dylan and I found that impossible to believe ! Now my nieces and nephews not only say that they don't like Wagner, but have never heard of him ! I have tried to explain the ecstasy and fulfillment that a Ring Cycle can give, but it falls on dear ears I'm afraid.

But it doesn't matter, because it won't interfere with my enjoyment, and if they have never heard of Wagner, it can hardly affect them either.
My God...they don't know who Wagner is?

LOL.....mikey.

Can't stand "most" classical music.
Can't stand "most" opera.
Can't stand most musical shows.

Ballads are my scene...Matt Monroe.

Each to his own, but believe me, I have great difficulty appreciating the "pleasures" of sitting in a muddy field with a crowd of unwashed, smelly "***".

Call me old fashioned.

Roy...an important point ! I have encountered drug addicts in the course of my work on a very few occasions but whenever I find needles lying around on the floor or the sofa, I leave asap. I am not a health professional, so I can leave without any problem, although I feel sorry for the people who have no choice but to work with this people. Our instructions from our employers is to "withdraw" in these circumstance, as our personal safety is paramount. I was attacked 2 years ago by someone who was very drunk , and I now err on the side of caution.

But I can choose my friends, and I would not associate with any that do take drugs. One couple did try to light up a spliff in my caravan some years ago, but were ejected in record time...that was my choice. They no longer remain in my circle of friends...again, my choice.

Eccles...I have looked at this and it appears to be clean enough ::

yeah but the real reason you ejected them is that they then ridiculed your Beverley Sisters tapes, isnt it ?

Matt Monroe...now you are talking Sqad ! ::::

Is my memory failing me or did not the English National Opera play Glasto once ! Act two of Die Walküre, in 2004. As I recall it, the audience loved it and cheered it to the rafters !
I adore a lot of classical music too Mikey - though I have a guilty penchant for Classical/Dance/Techno remixes.

I know many consider this to be almost a sacrilege but I love it and I think I am only a few months younger in age than you.
Question Author
I'm not really sure what "Classical/Dance/Techno remixes" are Mamy but I am willing to give it a try ! Can you find some on youtube, possibly with a Wagnerian theme and post it please ?

Am I losing my broadband signal during that, mamya...or is that how it is meant to be?
*the Dj Kinky one*
You shouldn't lose signal Roy, I don't.

The Wagner one is not good, Vivaldi is better by far.
