Would you like to see the burka banned? I consider it a threat to national security, apart from anything else

Yes I truly think you are.
ok, thanks .
Be specific, anne.
If i ordered nmy wife to wear a black bag over her head, I might have problems....
Can someone tell me exactly why a Muslim woman, of her own accord, chooses to wear a stinking black tent?
No. That would be totally crass and buying into the notion that "all Muslims are terrorists".
Why "stinking" Venator?
I agree with Retrochic...it should be prohibited in some areas.
Answerprancer - it's well documented that the burka gets hot and sweaty, and that there is not a tradition of washing it every day. The face mask accumulates saliva.
So why do women "choose" to wear it - answer please?
If you ban the burka who are you going to prosecute for wearing it?
The innocent 17yr old girl or the wicked older male who is insisting she wears it?
I'm not interested in answering why they "choose" to wear it, I just wanted to know why you "chose" to use the word "stinking" and now my question has been answered thank you.
...plus, I'm not a Muslim woman so I'm not qualified to answer the question.
No of course not. We would be playing right into the terrorists hands if we did. Tolerance is called for here.
In one of the world's 57 muslim countries, no. In all other countries throughout the world, yes.
Venator, // why do women "choose" to wear it - answer please?//

The burka is more in evidence now than it ever was – and as I said earlier the women who choose to wear it do so as a visible symbol of defiance of the west. They are making a political statement. It is the uniform of fundamentalist Islam.

Mikey, we’ve been far too tolerant for far too long. Even the NHS changed its dress code that ensured the best possible hygiene – potentially putting all patients at risk - to accommodate the foibles of Islam. It’s time to say ‘no’.
More than likely to have been said, If a person walked into a bank wearing one of these they should be refused service on ID Terms, I can not understand the Issue & the Problem every Government should bring a law out that it must not be used on the grounds of Security the way things are here in the UK, It was not the UK that started this problem, but we have a weak Government that have not got the guts to enforce the rules.
This thread is assuming all Muslim women are subservient and mindless and all Muslim men can't control their lusting. What utter rubbish! How would you lot feel if a Muslim Forum had a thread on how all Western Women were wh0r3s with loose morals and no respect for their partners? There are hundreds of thousands of western women who suffer domestic violence, or are told what to wear, who to be friends with, when they can go out etc. There are also hundreds of thousands of Muslim women who are educated professionals. How many of you have spent time with Muslims? Have you ever had a Muslim share your home (I have) Have you ever stayed in a Muslim household? (I have). Yes, I am under no illusions that domestic abuse happens and sometimes the wearing of the Burka is not a free choice for some Muslim women. A few years ago a local Christian business man in our area was charged with domestic violence after beating his wife black and blue and it came out that she was virtually a prisoner in her own home, told what to wear etc. You cannot ban an item of clothing because the Religion and Beliefs behind it don't tally with your beliefs and values. Je suis Charlie is supposed to convey the right of free speech and free will. IF you have the right to disrespect someones beliefs in public, whatever they are, then you should also have the right to wear whatever you want to in public. However, I still think that for security they should not be allowed to be worn in certain places.
I don't know what the fuss is about. Muslim women obviously choose to wear the burqa. After all, Islam has a long and proud tradition of women's rights only surpassed by it's support for human rights in general.
Why else do you think our left-wing friends slavishly defend their every action.
Svejk, :o)
