Would you like to see the burka banned? I consider it a threat to national security, apart from anything else

Svjek All 'Muslim Women' do not choose to wear the burka just as all 'Western Women' do not choose to go to the supermarket in their pyjamas -some do some don't .
There is still a female terrorist killer on the loose, she could be roaming the streets of London in a Burqa for all we know, no good publishing her photograph for identity purposes in the UK, at least she won't be able to hide behind a Burqa in France, thanks to their sensible ban on such a ridiculous garment.
AOG Free will and free speech has to work for all Nations or its just a joke.I am not a Christian (nor a Muslim) but think the idea of a Vicar walking around with a dog collar on quite ridiculous - it should be banned! and while you are on ban the Jewish yarmulk or Kippah? . Turbans look ridiculous and must be very hot and sweaty ban them! and ban those stupid baseball caps on the wrong way around while you're on because they are ridiculous as well! Bicycle clips, umbrellas with silly faces on, socks with toes - In fact why not ban everything that does not conform to what we think is 'normal!
^None of those things conceal the wearer's identity.
Retrochic

I did not support a ban on the Burqa because it looked ridiculous, it is as naomi suggested it all a matter of concealing one's identity.

Why do police issue out mugshots of criminals they want the public to help them to trace, if some sections of the community can legally hide their faces from public gaze?
Naomi if you bothered to actually read my full posts you would see that although I do not agree in principle to banning the burka I do agree that it should not be allowed to be worn in certain places where identity is important.
I read your posts.
The French must carry an Identity card. only logical then that the Police must be able to see your face. Simples-Gotit ?

Yes of course it should be banned in public! anything that conceals a persons identity should not be permitted!
spathiphyllum, this isnt about judging anybody, it is about concealing identity!
Yes I totally agree it should be banned completely
wondering what Scottish people would do if the kilt was banned south of the border?
The kilt does not hide peoples identities!!
Yes, it has no place in this country.
ratter my comment was tongue in cheek ;-)
Anything that involves a veil in a public place - out.....furthermore, though the Koran talks about modesty and avoiding lewdness of dress and body skin, it does not say anything about putting covering the eyes and nose. It's a contentious practice as it has evolved by the different interpretations of the Koran and its Haddiths over the centuries....bit like issues with the Bible.
Just to repeat yet again:
There is nothing to stop anyone wearing a burqa etc in public to conceal their identity if they choose to do so. Regardless of whether or not there is a law about it or not. Which makes such a law completely pointless as a security measure. A law banning the use of mobile phones in cars might be a useful way of deterring well-meaning folk from dangerous driving, woulsd it would not deter someone who wanted to trigger a remote controlled bomb while driving, unless it somehow made it physically impossible to do so.
And anyway if you want to conceal your identity there are lots of other ways you can do it.
So from a security point of view a ban on face coverings would probably be counterproductive: just another unenforceable law occupying police time when they are already overstretched.
Is the Burka a threat to security? Well it has been documented last year that it breached security in the UK. Don't ask me for a link. You will easily be able to find it for yourselves.
Muslim male had to attend court to answer anti-terrorism charges. He entered the court, if I remember correctly, in western male attire. He exited the court, not waiting for the proceedings to commence in a Burka. He apparently fled the country in said Burka.
No Gromit I am not making it up or have imagined it though, I concede, my memory is not as good as it was .
Another piece of evasion kit in the terrorist arsenal and a two fingers up for the attempts to combat it.!!
