A Bravado Racist Chant Maybe, But A Real Act Of Racism?

http://www.theguardian.com/football/2015/feb/18/racist-chelsea-fans-push-black-man-paris-metro

Much has been said and reported about the Chelsea fans behaviour in France, mainly due to the Video obtained by the Guardian.

Well apart from the ridiculous chant from a football crowd, and many of us have become accustomed to these over the years, was it enough for calls for the perpetrators to answer to be banned and face the law?

As far as I could see from the video, the black man was walking along the platform, until he got to the open door of the carriage containing the football crowd.

Now what was said, perhaps we will never know, but instead of the black man trying to board the train was he actually trying to confront these football supporters in an aggressive way, and if he was isn't it obvious that they would try and push him away.

Yes we all know that the crowd were suppose to be shouting "We’re racist, we’re racist, and that’s the way we like it". (because the Guardian has told us that), but in the true football crowd tradition was this just to get back at their opponent.

I am in no way condoning an act of racism if that is what it was, but before you condemn me look at the video again.

If one of this gang had punched someone and put them in hospital would had there been as much uproar? No, I dont think their would. Name calling is now a more serious offence than any violent attack it seems.

My last post to you wasn't a question.

However, if you have got a question that I've missed, please ask again, and I will answer straight away.

AOG - "There you go again, I do not need you or anyone else to tell me who to apologise to on a personal basis, especially to a person who deliberately sits on the by-line time and time again just to direct insults towards myself.

When that person apologises to me personally then I will be gentlemanly enough to return an apology."

Ignored - as advised.
Re the comment about the Talbot oyinbo post, someone wrote:
"Note - this thread doesn't have much about the incident itself - it's full of arguments against AOG's position (either his own position, or that of devil's advocate).
You see the difference?".
Yes, I do: there are lots of people who are more interested in attacking an inept argument than attacking racism itself.
vetuste - " there are lots of people who are more interested in attacking an inept argument than attacking racism itself."

I think you'll find the two activities are not mutually exclusive.

Arguing with a ludicrous position is not the same as defending the background circumstances.
"I think you'll find the two activities are not mutually exclusive. ".
Not a point I need to "find" - it's a logical nuance I've already grasped, Andy.
I'm accusing you all of partiality in the selection of those victims of "racism" you feel moved sufficiently by to defend. White (and now Jewish) victims) seem pretty low in the pecking order. If the colours and the language of the racial slur reported in the oyinbo post were reversed the Talbot thread would be 300 posts long and this one would be deserted.

I believe that to be an assumption without foundation.

I will speak out against racism wherever and whenever I find it - regardless of the ethnicity of the participants, and I think I have the majority backing from those who have posted on this, and similar threads.

/// No-one else does it - maybe you should think about why it's just you. ///

Because I am my own person and do not follow the rest of the sheep.

Many have come on this site but have not possessed the strength of their own convictions, and thus have never returned to this site, because of the constant school playground bullying.

Others and you (along with your self righteous pomposity) will never drive me away from this site or instruct me what type of subject I am to post on, or from what news source I will gather it from.

Since the type of person that you have seemed to have developed into is not the same person as you once was, I can see no reason to debate with any longer, I know we have been here before, but this time I feel I can no longer accept your apologies and agree to sweep everything under the carpet.

Which bit of 'ignored' isn't reaching you?

Ignored.

Look forward to seeing the evidence, Andy.
What did you think of Mourinho's apology?
divebuddy - "Andy, Talbot's thread gave you a great opportunity to speak out against racism wherever you find it. But you preferred to stay on this thread and argue about how many angels can dance on the point of a needle, or something."

Your post has dropped in as I was typing on Talbot's thread.

I missed its posting through nothing other than inattention - it was not my stance to ignore it in favour of this thread.

My position on that incident is clear - and now that I have read the thread, I have added my thoughts.

You have also cross-posted as I was writing my previous post - hopefully your question is now answered.

"What did you think of Mourinho's apology?"

Not read it yet - will come back once I have.
One brownie point, Andy.
Thanks vetuste!

I have read the apology, and think it is appropriate - especially the efforts to distance the club from this appalling behaviour.

What type of person goes to the trouble of copying and pasting one's post, so as to add:

"Ignored - as advised".

I can see a person with his arms folded and sporting a quivering bottom lip. :0)

divebuddy - "^^^^^ AOG, I keep wondering that. Thank goodness cyber space doesn't require paper. Andy would personally account for the whole Amazon rain forest."

LOL - except that the rain forests do not supply paper manufacture - they are harvested for wood panel decorations beloved of some Asian cultures.

Once a pedant, always a pedant!!! LOL again!!

You asked about the 'hypocracy of racism' in football.

I'm not sure, but inquote[think] its part of the territoriality thing.

As I understand it, a player who is signed to Arsenal is a wonderful player who cannot be criticised and will be defended by Arsenal supporters.

However, if that same player signs for Spurs or Chelsea, his skills and playing style might be exactly the same as it was when he played for Arsenal - but now he's a complete scumbag with a slapper for a girlfriend.
Not wanting to throw petrol on this ever smouldering fire ... I for one clearly seen references to the black man walking past an "empty Carriage" before confronting the Chelsea supporters( in more than one instance), as I am sure those in earlier on this debate must surely remember or recall.
...Where are they now ?..
It is important, but I wont comment any further until I get someone who agree's these references can no longer be found...either that or I've lost my marbles.
