God Bless America......shocking....
America...the Land of the Free, ( free to kill thousands of innocent people
every year )
Question Author
I think back to an attack on a school in Wolverhampton some years ago where the assailant didn't have access to guns. He used a machete. There were injuries but no deaths. If he could have got his hands on guns and ammunition we might have had another Sandy Hook incident.
Another sensible post Sandy...give yourself BA !
Lets put a few irons into the fire here shall we?

It has been said that America has a frontier mentality, but has anyone thought that America is a prime example of why the great dream of multi racism just does not work?

They say that when America coughs we later catch a cold.

There is also a point to make that so far has not been discussed or some are afraid to discuss.

The killer was a black homosexual, who had a number of bees under his bonnet regarding presumed racial discrimination in the work place.

Since his targets were two white persons could it be said that this was a black on white crime, therefore a racial killing.

Had it had been a white person shooting and killing two innocent black TV personalities, I am sure that the whole discussion would not have been about the right or wrongs regarding the carrying of guns in the USA.

The skin colour of the killer or his victims wasn't known to me when I posted the question. It's not about race.

I think in terms of 'blacks against whites' - please forgive the simplification for the purposes of avoiding side-tracking - the gun issue is an aspect of the conflict, rather than a direct result. America has been multi-racial since before its inception as a country - the native American tribes lived in harmony and conflict long before the white settlers, or guns, arrived.

"There is also a point to make that so far has not been discussed or some are afraid to discuss.

As I understand the news reports, the killer had specific personal issues with the two victims, I am unsure if these issues were race-based, but I don't think we can assume a racial motive simply based on the ethnicity of the people involved.

"Had it had been a white person shooting and killing two innocent black TV personalities, I am sure that the whole discussion would not have been about the right or wrongs regarding the carrying of guns in the USA."

I cannot speak for others, but as far as I am concerned, my posts would have been no different if the ethnicities had been reversed - the issue of guns in America transcends any and all racial boundaries in my view.
Sandy I agree...this wasn't about race. It was all about an unhinged man with an aggrievement, who also happened to access to guns....a poisonous cocktail.

AOG, while America certainly seems to have a growing racial unrest problem, the country is made up of many different nationalities, who have emigrated across the Atlantic for the last few hundred years, especially in the 1800's. Emigration lies at the very heart of the formation of the country.
Well argued Andy H !
Mikey - "Well argued Andy H !"

Thank you very much - support is always appreciated - it balances the (failed) attempts at needling going on elsewhere.
Andy...there are some on here, a minority of course, that use this site specifically to needle others......best ignored in my opinion !

This was certainly about race, it has been reported that he accused either the TV station or his two unfortunate victims of racism.

Yes and don't you think that this was all part of the troubles we see in the USA?

Al Capone and the influx of the Italian Mafia, to choose one particular example. interracial crime involving blacks and Hispanics for another.
Nonsense AOG !

Without immigration, America would be a vast, nearly empty country with nothing other than a few million white people with Anglo_Saxon roots and a few 100,000 native Americans.

It was all about Manifest destiny :::

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manifest_destiny

Tens of millions of people from all over Europe fled appalling conditions and civil war in order the build new lives across the Atlantic, and they are still arriving today. Despite what idiots like Trump says, America needs immigration in order to keep its economy going.

To suggest that Al Capone was representative of every Italian immigrant is breathtakingly ignorant, and the main reason why America has lots of blacks is because their ancestors were forcibly removed from their homes in Africa and transported to the New World, a great part of which involved the British, to our continuing shame.
AOG, the issue being discussed by most people here is whether or not free access to firearms is likely to increase the likelihood of death by shooting. Personally I find it difficult to understand how anybody can be shot to death in the absence of firearms but I'm sure that if it can happen anywhere it can happen in the USA.
jomifl...well said...another common sense post ! The logical and rational seem to have the upper hand this morning !
I think you're right, aog. There would be a very different discussion going on if the races were reversed. You know it, I know it and I suspect the usual suspects know it despite their contrary protestations.
Question Author
I doubt if there would. When someone in authority, usually white, shoots an unarmed 'suspect', usually black, that's cause for concern, and comment.

But that's not what this thread is about.
The experiment has failed. Since The American Revolutionary War (1775–1783
when our children in the New World decided to rebuff what mummy & daddy in the mother country told them to do, things have deteriorated rapidly. I think it is time we declared the experiment a failure & claimed our colonies back.
God Save Our Queen, protector of the realm & all colonial properties.
Ron....have you thought about that properly ?

Yes, petrol a few pence a litre sounds nice, and all that wonderful scenery, especially out West. But we would all have to drink Miller or Bud Light and carry a gun ! And drive everywhere slowly !

And mangle the Queen's English !

By the way, do you know what Bud Light is ? Its ordinary Bud, but with even more water added !

I know it rains a lot here in Wales, but you can easily get some real beer, Proper Pasties, we have whats left of the NHS and no one gets shot, well, not many anyway.
