Why the change? Croydon was such a nice place once, and to see women fighting in the street, if it ever happened was very, very rare.

I do not doubt that in this present age, and there have been plenty of press reports showing such incidents, but the question that I asked was "why the change"?
ummmm stated that "I was brought up in a pub. I have seen it many many times"!
But failed to state during what period in time? Yes there have always been drinking establishments that were classed as 'Rough Pubs', but even in those it was almost none existent to witness two or more females fighting, in fact females generally kept away from such establishments.
The pubs I remembered of yesteryear, at the 10 o'clock closing time, groups would congregate outside the pub so as to have a long last chat, before dispersing with the usual "good night mate, good night Mrs."
I ask again "WHY THE CHANGE"

Blimey...I've just tried to imagine a world where the media reported every fight between every pair of drunks outside every pub and club in the land.
Just...imagine...that...
There would be no room for stories about Kim Kardashian or Strictly Come Dancing.
I would propose that if people need to see videos such as these, they go to YouTube.

Far from a decline in public behaviour I am sure it is substantially improved now.
A regular part of a Saturday nights 'entertainment' for a segment of the population was planning where to go for the fight, for the rest of us it was necessary to make plans to avoid the 'trouble spots'.
There was 1 dance hall near me where you could guarantee there would be a fight every Saturday.
I am sure there was a similar place in most towns.

You ask 'why the change'?
I have suggested that this has been going on for decades. The availability over extremely cheap booze. The ladette culture, the dumbing down of media influence, poor educational attainment, poor examples given by parents...
The list goes on and on. I think it would be impossible to pinpoint just one element here.
But what *is* true is that it's more visible now, than in the 90s because everyone with a cameraphone is a photojournalist.

It is not a matter of incidents such as this becoming 'entertainment', but it certainly a concern that this change in behaviour is nationwide.
The change of behaviour in my town has actually swung the other way. Fighting was the norm in the 80's (mainly due to travelling football fans having a mid journey stop-off) I can't remember the last fight I witnessed and haven't seen a cat fight since I was in my 20's.

/// People have always argued and fought, even in Croydon.
The difference is that everyone has a video camera in their pocket to capture the grizzily details ///
/// So behaviour hasn't changed, but the technologic revolution means we can all rubberneck at such incidents from the comfort of our own homes. ///
Oh and did we once all go around with our eyes closed back then? Can't blame it on rose tinted glasses because I don't think they were invented back then.

Actually AOG, -Talbot- raises a good point...there is a bit of good news.
Remember when we were almost defined as a nation by football hooliganism?
Well, that's all but disappeared.
I remember on a Saturday afternoon (when my family lived near Bermondsey in the 70s), you'd basically be taking your life in your hand if you ever dared travel anywhere near Millwall after a game finished and they (inevitably) lost.
Not an issue now.
Indeed, we regularly drive past the Emerites stadium on a Saturday afternoon, and haven't ever seen anything like the behaviour that was so prevalent in the 70s and 80s.
So it's not all bad news, eh?

/// For every numpty like anyone of those, there are ten thousand god honest people living and forming part of the society in which we live. ///
Yes totally agree, but in my lifetime I have seen those ten thousand being diluted before my very eyes.
That is my concern, and most sensible persons would agree, how many times has it been reported of the decline in social behaviour, morals, respect and discipline?
