/// But I cannot help observing the grotesque irony that in the capital of Germany this deluded woman should have spoken of how ‘England’s fascistic side’ affected the British view of Germany and World War II. ///
/// She even had the nerve to grumble about being ‘completely brainwashed’ by films she saw in her childhood showing the British ‘being marvellous and beating the Nazis’. ///
You can't get any more anti-British than that.

Who loathes Britain's immigration policies?
Who loathes human rights (as pioneered by Magna Carta)?
Who loathes Britain's politics and politicians?
Who loathes Britian's benefits system?
Who loathes the BBC?
Who loathed the 2012 Olympics? (And said it would be a fiasco because the British couldn't run things?)
Who loathes fellow Britons with different religious beliefs?
Who loathes Britain's penal system and its holiday camps?
Who loathes Britain's friendly co-operation with other countries?
Who loathes Britain's less friendly wars with other countries and all the refugees they create?
Some people will never be happy until Britain is run along more Russian lines - absolutism tempered by assassination. But I wonder who those people are?

baz's rant about how if "the lefties" were in charge during WWII would be fine if it didn't casually overlook the fact that those known bastions of leftie liberalism, Neville Chamberlain and Lord Halifax (and other members of the Conservative party), were considering surrender in May 1940. Attlee and Morrison preferred, along with Churchill, to fight on. So we did.
Lefties, then, may well have saved the country that they purportedly hated, while the patriotic right-wingers preferred to throw in the towel. Ironic, that.

In the same essay in 1941 Orwell wrote, that he blamed fellow Leftists before the war for 'chipping away at English morale, trying to spread an outlook that was sometimes squashily pacifist, sometimes violently pro Russian, but always anti-British. It's uncanny, is it not, how closely the Corbynista Emma Thompson is following the methods described by Orwell. But of course in this instance replaces Russia with EUSSR. Brainwashed by films (made of course by her fellow luvvies) showing Britain beating the Nazis. Of course the country which she finds so contemptible is in fact admired and envied by many Europeans. One only has to look at the number who choose to settle here. (I believe that even some of our ABers have European family connections). She should move to Germany and make room for someone who wants to be here.
I'm at it again in the recommendations game, but if anyone can get hold of it it would be worth watching the last part of Simon Schama's History of Britain from 2002, which compares the lives of Chirchill and Orwell (the hero of 1984 is called Winston of course) - a leftie and a rightie - who were political opposites but shared a loathing for much of the British imperial establishment and a love of and sense of the importance of history (1984 is as much a novel about the death of history as anything)
I've been a life-long socialist and spent the first half of my working years (now long retired) in military service. Clearly, in right-wing minds, this is evidence - not that I felt the UK worth defending - but that I loathed it. What a very twee interpretation of reality, but that's The Right for you!
/// it's really not worth getting upset over. ///
Who is getting upset? It is not I.
/// The mail readership likes to be inflamed and
angry ///
It would appear that it is only the lefties who regularly gets inflamed and angry over the Mail, it's readership and those ABers who prefer to present threads from it's excellent web site.
No one else seems to bother.

I beg to differ.
I would not for one moment presume to know the political affiliations of bazwillrun and Svejk, but their oft-offered support of your viewpoint, and indeed you personally, could infer that they are not 'lefty' sympathisers.
But with regard to your assertion that it is only the 'lefties' who regularly get inflamed and angry with the Mail, I would direct your attention to the posts of -
bazwillrun at 10:23 and 10:27
and
Svekl at 10:50 - both of whom seem a tad het up with the gist of your OP.

/// I am all for posting opinions, and if this thread can avoid spiralling into a personal attack-fest like they usually do, I will be all for that as well! ///
That is the problem with debates, one cannot help turning things into personal attacks ie one person makes a point and then another person opposes that view point, therefore the first person takes that to be a personal attack on themself and their views.
