Well I have always thought that when U.S. and U.K. military forces enter a war zone they should declare that anyone carrying or possessing a Kalashnikov should be shot on sight unless they are legally allowed to possess them i.e. local government forces and security. mind you they are notoriously treacherous when working amidst those who try to improve the sh...t hole the locals live in.

Every male does national service in Turkey, and there are about 9million guns in private ownership.

But fairly useless against GPMG's, artillery, tanks and air support. That's generally why military coups are successful i.e. they carry the big stick, hence my description 'heavily armed', Gromit. When they fail it's down to poor leadership, not inferior firepower.
