Clearly Aldi believes this Muslim employee is suitable and for all we know, the employee can scan messages more quickly than colleagues, as compensation for not handling alcohol.

## I can truthfully say, that would never happen in Spain. ##

Or Saudi Arabia :-)
Gosh, why are people so keen to get cheap fizz? It's not as if it's expensive on a normal day.

Seems an odd decision from Aldi but it's up to Aldi how to organise its tills, who to put on them (over 18s, under 18s who need someone else to do alcohol sales, those who object to handling certain items on religious grounds) and indeed how many tills to have open. It's up to customers to decide whether the level of service is acceptable. I assume it's part of some diversity policy here where they want to attract a more diverse workforce, or maybe there are recruitment difficulties, so they take who they can, but it seemds to me it makes life marginally more difficult for management other staff and customers.
But why peopel go to the press about it I don't know, especially if it is clearly signposted that only certain tills can handle alcohol sales.
People look for something to complain about or look to take offence over some minor issues and perhaps don't have any important issues to worry about.

20 botts of prosecco - £6.50
no not each ! the whole lot !
no no dont rush to Newton Heath ( Newton Heaf to sarveners) it sold out by opening time

went out wiv some lads and lasses and the round was two botts prosecco wh in the club was £40 - no not each.
at last, the voice of reason
aldi's decision was driven by sales volume
if he sells more of the kosher stuff or drags in islamic shoppers then it worth it
// at last, the voice of reason //

o thank you aelmpwv - I take praise no matter whence it comes
you're welcome :-)
Asquith/Islay
Yes, i appreciate that, but I really should have made it clear that i was referring to England.....Northampton as in the OP.
abortion
//which provides that “no person shall be under any duty ... to participate in any treatment authorised by this Act to which he has a conscientious objection”.//

only example of religious grounds being lawful grounds to refuse treating someone - so let us not allow it to seet a precedent

judges clearly not keen to extend the grounds ...
It's her job to serve customers and not pick and choose what products she wants to scan.

Aldi shouldn't pander to her religious beliefs. If I can been refused by this person, I would have walked out and never returned.
BA to Bernie, at 09:19 !
understand the critics, but this is only the same as a staff member who cannot sell alcohol as they are under 18. Live and let live folks, as long as the sign could be seen before people joined the Q.
It is not the same at all. There is a law against persons under 18 selling alcohol.

Good point NoM !
" but this is only the same as a staff member who cannot sell alcohol as they are under 18."

yes, the same as a London bus is to a cabbage....

One's against the law, the other is pandering to ludicrous belief system.
Another good point Boo !
