The rapid rise in attacks on LGBT people might be attributed to an increase in foreign cultures, but it's unlikely, because the figures don't correlate.
According to Migraton Watch, the biggest rise migration figures happened between 1997 and 2004. We would need figures on attacks during that period to determine whether there was a casual link.
But even then, it remains doubtful that broad statistics would prove a link between the two figures. The only way to prove the link would be to study the profile of each attacker.
Others have posited that people who are attacked are more likely to report such crimes now, because the police take them much more seriously than they did in the past. That could be a contributing factor.
And it's also true that the Far Right are not averse to stirring up trouble for LGBT people when they feel the 'need' arises. Let's not forget what Nick Griffin did...
