A little story for you perhaps to raise the level of bonhomie on the thread.
In my younger days, I was medical officer to the 4th battalion Kings Own Light Yorkshire infantry and the Queen was coming to Pontefract Barracks to present the regiment with new colours. Myself and the Padre were informed that we we not to present ourselves at the ceremony as our marching was unacceptable and would spoil the effect of the parade.
The padre and myself were both white, we didn't complain or make a fuss, we understood the desires of the Commanding Officer.
