It seemed to me to be normal to adopt the custom of the country and it certainly eased my stay and social interaction. As someone has said 'When in Rome, do as the Romans do', unless, of course, you wish to cause offence and disadvantage yourself.
Muslims regard the left hand as unclean (for reasons before explained) as I found out when at the end of the school year I once offered a bag of sweets around - all refused and I discovered it was I was holding the bag of wrapped sweets in my left hand.

AuntLydia - // Khandro that is just not true! They use a shower head with running water and dry off and wash their hands as we would. I know because I adapted the bathroom for my Muslim tenants! //
Khando isn't going to let a little thing like a fact get in the way of his prejudices!
lol...I see some anecdotes are acceptable to mr hughes.

\\Talbot: Muslims don't shake hands with unrelated females lowly or not!
"For a man to shake hands with a non-mahram woman (one to whom he is not related) is haraam and is not permitted at all."
Ignorance is bliss.......//
Wrong, the muslim owner of my Local indian restuarant shook hands with my wife everytime we went there.

AuntLydia, //She was going for a job as an Interpreter, they would have known she was likely Muslim and should have respected her beliefs.//
They did respect her beliefs. They didn’t want someone who wouldn’t shake hands so she didn’t get the job.
Actually, if she was that observant of her faith she wouldn’t be taking cheeky little selfies. This is bunkum.

lol Naomi where in the koran does it say one can't take selfies? She had her head covered ;-). The man was vile. No one should be frog marched out of an interview ( if that's true). A simple " sorry I don't think you are suitable for the position" would have sufficed. This is more about the prejudice of the man interviewing than the beliefs of the Muslim woman.
Jackdaw is absolutely right. When I lived in France I learned to kiss everyone. Choir practices often started about 20 mins. late because greetings had to be exchanged. My next-door neighbour used to kiss me 4 times - he rather fancied me. It goes back to 'When in Rome...'.
This woman was in Sweden, so she does as they do, which is to shake hands.
