AuntLydia, The Sunnah forbids the reproduction of the image of any living creature. In some societies, extending to some of the Islamic faith schools in this country, even children are not permitted to draw people, animals or birds.
ps. I repeat, this is bunkum.
Have you got any children, woofgang?
bottom line is that we have to bend over backwards to accommodate muslims. Would they do the same for me if I went to Riyadh? Anyway no way I would hire someone who is going to disappear 5 times a day to pray, probably for my destruction. if they want to live in civilisation muck in, end of.
//The /bottom line is that we have to bend over backwards to accommodate muslims.//

The bottom line is that we don’t ‘have’ to - we should be saying 'no' - but while non-Muslims continue to demand respect for claimed Islamic foibles, Muslims will continue to demand respect – and they will continue to get away with it. Islam is laughing at the gullible. Useful idiots all.
As soon as I seen this story on the internet I guessed one of two folk would post a negative question about it.

ANOTHEOLDGIT, you didn't disappoint but how, in your opinion, would not shaking someone's hand have affected her ability to do the translating job?
no Talbot, no kids. Does having kids make you like being kissed by strangers?

Aaaand followed local customs.
Shower heads! a year or so ago a Pakistani Muslim take-away restaurant owner in England was fined when human faeces were found in the food he was serving out. When the toilet was examined all there was was a bottle of water for cleansing the bum.
If I remember rightly, his shop was called 'The Flavour of the Orient'
Every day we get threads regarding muslims and situations which they seem to create in order to deliberately cause division, unrest, spats, and downright hostility amongst us non-muslims. And it doesn't just happen on AB. Look at other sites, including newspapers with readers' comments sections, containing stories about "poor down-trodden misunderstood muslims" and see the dichotomy. This religion is a firm believer in "a house divided against itself cannot stand", "divide and conquer", "split and rule", etc. Islam is akin to an evil creeping miasma with no other intention than to suffocate and annihilate us.
^ Yup. ^
And we are told not to believe the Muslims who tell it as it is.

These hate preachers don't represent my Muslim neighbour or my barber or the bloke at the kebab shop.

And yet they never preach to an empty mosque.
jourdain - // This woman was in Sweden, so she does as they do, which is to shake hands. //

There is a big difference between adopting a social custom, and going against your faith to do so.

It wouldn't bother me not to shake hands, any more than it bothered me when a temple attendant in Greece ushered myself and my father-in-law out of the temple because we were wearing shorts.

In my view, religious observance trumps social mores any day, and the simple courtesy of adapting is really not that big a deal, unless you want to be a bigot about it.
" In my view, religious observance trumps social mores any day, and the simple courtesy of adapting is really not that big a deal, unless you want to be a bigot about it."
Then the Muslim's who come to this country should have the simple courtesy to adapt to our religious custom of not wearing a burka .
Its not actually a religious custom to not wear a burka....no religion to my knowledge forbids wearing a burka and certainly the Church of England has no problem with it
'Bigot'. Nice, measured.
"Anyway no way I would hire someone who is going to disappear 5 times a day to pray, probably for my destruction."

Is the thought that Muslims would be praying "problaby for [TTT's] destruction" also a nice, measured opinion?
Ahhh, yer but, no but followed by a 'well at least.....'.
