People's outrage could be channeled into getting the whole practice of halal outlawed in Britain. I would urge people to look at the Compassion in World Farming website concerning this issue, or join one of the many organisations actively trying to stop this exceptionally cruel and unnecessary method of slaughter.
I am sure I am not alone (as a meat-eater) in wishing that there could be a great deal more humane treatment of those animals which end up on our dinner-plates; right through from birth to death.
Halal and Kosher butchery both fall well below any minimum standards I would like to see.
However, I'll say it again, there in *no* evidence that the animal/s in the Dagenham backyard had been killed there.

sanmac: I'm not in anyway condoning what happened but no one knows how the animal they were cutting up died -its all speculation. Most probably it was killed in a slaughterhouse using halal methods, and the next meal you eat (unless you are vegetarian) could have been killed the same way as halal meat is all over the Supermarket shelves.
