so there we have it. so , what is this so rule often opined on ?

SK, overuse of the word at the beginning of sentence
So what exactly is wrong with starting with so.
//SK, overuse of the word at the beginning of sentence//

So what? ;-)
Mozz, my sentiments exactly - and I've been known to voice them. ;o)
ALTHOUGH. Police officers please decline * home made cookies * Yes it did happen .
Sk, It seems to have crept in where people are using it totally out of context.
The "so rule" is merely a pet pout by the resident a.h.
Example:- Question "what is your occupation" answer "so i am a plumber"
Mozz, SK asked a question, I answered it.
Anne, most days 'home made cookies' are the only way to get through a day on AB.
To the OP - no, they shouldn't.
Danny, that isn’t an example, but the ‘rule’ exists only in AH’s head anyway so it’s not worth worrying about. Abject nonsense.
Naomi, It is an example, If you watch The Chase you will see it used by some competitors before every sentence when asked a question,
//Mozz, SK asked a question, I answered it.//

Yes, and my reply was supposed to be humorous in breaking the so rule itself.
That's a really shaky example, Dannyk13. The majority of posters on here are using "so" in their responses to indicate: "for that reason, consequently, so, as a result, as a consequence, hence, thus, accordingly, then, that being so, that being the case, on that account; ergo."
Danny, it’s not an example of AH’s rule.

This is as I understand it.

Example:

Question: Why are immigrants coming here?

Answer: So, you think immigration should be stopped.

No… the questioner didn’t say that.
Naomi, as for as I understand it he is objecting to the superfluous use of the word. so
Naomi has it right. It's using 'so' before putting words into someone else's mouth.
