Very true naomi. Which is why I'll never vote again. I would love to meet my MP face to face as I know she is a 'remainer' despite my town having a majority vote to leave, but maybe it's best I don't as I may say something I'll later regret !!!
OG //The so called financial obligations, that I've yet to see proved, will still be demanded. And the EU will still demand a hard border,//
No sum has been arrived at as yet, only a 'mechanism' has been agreed (as I understand it). The hard border isn't a great concern to the EU, it has only been kept to the fore as leverage
^
Which is where, according to BJ back in 2018, said that no Tory government could, or should, sign up to an agreement which meant that's where the border would be.
ken; //.....BJ back in 2018,...// If as Harold Wison said, "a week is a long time in politics", what is a year?
Why is changing one's stance in changed circumstances seen by some as a defect?
Was the circumstances really that changed ? It's still an internal national border and as such an anathema. But since the EU refuse to be reasonable the best that could be agreed, if we were to make a deal, is to let NI decide where the EU border should be. With the RoI, or with the rest of the UK. They need to get their assembly/executive sorted though.
Are you aware naomi, that Martin Howe who wrote the article in the Telegraph I quoted, is a QC & a leading barrister in the fields of intellectual property and EU law?
However, of course you understand Boris' deal better than he.
Khandro, //a QC & a leading barrister in the fields of intellectual property and EU law//
So what? And that makes him as honest as the day is long rather than a man with an agenda? You're too easily influenced - especially by people you regard as influential.
Khandro; Because it is a defect. If someone stands in front of a microphone in a room full of people and declares that something is just not going to happen, then those people should feel comfortable that it won't happen. Perhaps if he had said, "unless there is a major shift in the political arena." or some such words. Boris, like far too many of our MPs, make far too many promises which they have no real control over. I mean, how many times did he promise we would be out of the EU come 1 Nov 2019?
I've been away from this thread today but, having re-read it, I'm seeing that Naomi and a few others don't even have consistent arguments. However, I hope that the posts from her and from HereIam re our never leaving the EU turn out to be true.
ken; Could anyone predict that such underhanded tactics would be employed, not only by the opposition (Benn surrender) that could be expected, but by his own party in the shape of Letwin, Hammond Grieve et al ?
Any fair-minded person should be able to see that he did everything humanly possible to carry out his promise. Nobody can really predict the future & it's naive to think otherwise.
Or, Khandro, maybe he made the promise because he never thought he would be in a position to renege on it. He wasn't PM when he addressed the DUP in 2018.
Any fair minded person would not make promises if there is the slightest chance they cannot keep them. Unless, of course, they are trying to deceive.
All you Tories are frightened to death of Corbyn. Whatever issue is being discussed, it always ends with a warning about Corbyn getting into No10. Always. Gone on. Admit it.
tell you what 10cs, I'll offer you or any Labour supporter the same deal I offered itchy and scratchy on another thread. £20 to charity, Boris gets more seats than Labour, you in? or just running off at the mouth as usual?
