1-3 were only achieved by condoning police violence. Great idea - not!
4. A very dubious claim.
5. Resulted in City "fat cats".
6. Brought about by earlier government incompetence re South Georgia.

10. Result - the rich got richer.
There was nothing right about Margaret Twtacher. See my reply here at 00.22.

Naomi said that Labour closed more mines than the Tories. I accept that. But the reasons were totally different. Labour closed them because they were running out resources. Twatcher closed them and other industries to deliberately bring hardship and unemployment on the miners, out of vindictiveness because she wanted to crush the unions. She was a traitor who deliberately destroyed the industrial base of this country, and should have been publicly hanged in Parliament Square and her statue should be thrown on the scrap heap - like she did with manufacturing.
What a load of cobblers. If it weren't for Thatcher what a state this country would be in today.
DD, do not try and reason with these simpletons over TGL, itchy and scratchy are too young to know what it was like before TGL. They have been brainwashed by lefty teachers to hate her because she exposed their flawed ideology. 10cs is a left wing idiot who thinks the union antics of the 70s were a good thing. You cannot reason with idiots.
10c; //She was a traitor who deliberately destroyed the industrial base of this country,//

I think this gentleman had no small part in it;

DD, Your list contains many inappropriate items relating to restricting the right of the working class to defend themselves against unfair treatment. It amazingly also includes the poll tax. If you are going to support a claim you ought not include that which destroys it. I'd advise not going on in that manner. Much of the rest may well have happened under any PM as it was the right time for it. I might just give you the Falklands, but even then, good intelligence should have prevented such an affront in the first place.
One doesn't need teachers to teach you to disapprove of oppression of the general working public. Nor of ideology encouraging harm to industry and leaving many without employment simply because government refuse to sanction gentler ways of change. She was like a bull in a China shop.
Clarion, //Labour closed them because they were running out resources.//

So the resource – coal – was somehow miraculously replenished once the Conservatives gained power? Crikey! That’s clever! How did that happen?

//Twatcher closed them and other industries to deliberately bring hardship and unemployment on the miners, out of vindictiveness because she wanted to crush the unions.//

What nonsense! No one who understands business – which you clearly don’t – closes it down deliberately, least of all to bring hardship to anyone. If an industry is unsustainable it’s unsustainable – and the coal mines were unsustainable. Labour knew that – which is why it closed so many mines. As for the unions, they were holding this country to ransom. That's the truth. Arthur Scargill was so vocal in encouraging the miners to strike but he didn’t go short. Hypocrite. As I told your sidekick diddly the other day, your Socialist Utopian fantasy doesn’t exist - anywhere in the world - and it never has. Even in the most austere of so-called equal societies the elite thrive. A bit of light reading for you:

You and diddlydo embrace the politics of envy. You don’t have it so you don’t want anyone else to have it. Perhaps you should have tried harder.
Question Author
Naomi - I have no idea why you think envy comes into anything I've said. I don't "envy" the rich their lifestyle - I just wish that the country's wealth was distributed more fairly so that the poor could have a better standard of living (and I say that as a person who is not rich but certainly not poor either).
diddlydo, if all the money in the country was collected together and distributed evenly between us all, we would very soon, once again, end up with the rich and the poor because some would use it wisely and some wouldn't. That's life. Your Socialist Utopia is a dream. It doesn't - and can't - exist. It never has.
Question Author
Naomi - I didn't say distribute the wealth "evenly", I said "fairly". There's a difference.
Diddly. A polite question. Have you ever read Animal Farm?
Question Author
Yes, a great book.
Diddly, have you also read Das Kapital?
if itchy has read animal farm, clearly he didn't understand it.
You can’t get fairer than sharing everything out equally, diddly - or did you just mean you want what someone else has earned?
Question Author
Neither of those Naomi. Anyway, are you claiming that you've never received what others have earned? No free education, no NHS treatment, no child benefit????? All paid for from what someone else has earned.
Agreed TTT
But did you mean Diddly, TXT?
"Twatcher closed them and other industries to deliberately bring hardship and unemployment on the miners, out of vindictiveness because she wanted to crush the unions."

That has to be one of the most ridiculously wrong things I've ever read on this site.

When it costs more to mine a ton of coal than a ton of coal can be sold for, it is the economics of the mad house to continue to mine for the coal.
