Jim360 - “The defeat, such as it was, owes more to the leaders of the Remain campaign than it does to the rank- and- file, anyway.” I vehemently disagree. While the leaders of the Remain campaign were, for the most part, doom- mongering, lying catastrophis ts, it was the rank- and- file 'C' and 'D' list remoaners in the main-stream media that really put the...

'I just have contempt for the attitude that we were in any sense part of a tyranny, in any sense subjugated.'
The possibility of that ever becoming a reality has been greatly reduced, which, you must agree, is a good thing.
I'm fairly sure that farmers and small businesses subject to endless EU regulations felt tyrannised.

We weren't asked if we wished to join. After 2 years we were asked if we wanted to pull out so soon after being forced in by Heath, whilst being assured that any suggestion we'd lose democracy was just propaganda. Hardly joined willingly, or with full information. Just lied to. Pushing towards unagreed federalism whilst not having the last word on how we do things in our own nation, but having to obey the unelected Commission, is as good a definition of subjugation as one needs.
I don't believe I've ever implied that Leave voters were racist, chrissa. On the other hand, Remain voters don't have a slave mentality, which is and always has been the obvious implication of this stupid EUSSR jibe; nor did we want anything other than the best for our country, making all that VBQ stuff nothing other than offensive nonsense that should never have entered public/AB discourse.
All I'm asking for, then, is a bit of perspective. The UK has made a decision that I cannot support, and now we will see who was right about its benefits; but we haven't thrown off an imperialist yoke, we are not suddenly free from oppression, this is not in any sense our "Independence Day".
But I can honestly say that I've never hoped more to have been wrong in my life. In five years' time, nothing would give me more pleasure than to think of myself today as wrong, blinded to the benefits of this choice.

Those of us who aren't socialist, or even just 'left wing' consider living under socialist Brussels a tyranny.
Plus, you must concede, far fetched as it seems at the moment, if the wrong people are allowed into power in Brussels true tyranny would be easy to achieve, especially if the Euro army becomes a reality.
I'm glad to have played a small part in our exit and fervently hope that we are the keystone that brings the whole caboodle down so that we may replace it with something sensible.

Stuff and nonsense. The EU Commission is answerable to the EU Council and to the EU Parliament. There was never any question of tyranny.
I don't understand why it should even be necessary to have put forward such tripe. What's wrong with sticking to a more general philosophical position that prefers, say, national to supranational government, without adding all this guff of "tyranny"?
