How Naive Is Trump?
Does he really think that banning flights from the Schengen area is going to limit Covid cases in the USA? Has no-one told him that Covid is no respecter of boundaries? Of course he wouldn't want to include flights from the UK in the ban as that would upset his mate Boris. I despair of his intelligence.

Measures have to be proportionate to the actual threat level. Is breaking self-isolation or voluntary quarantine a crime if you don't actually have the disease? No. So how can it be enforced, if it even should be?
Even locking down the borders is a problem, because your own tourists abroad would still be entitled to return to their place of residence, thus possibly spreading the disease anyway. And the final rather sad fact is that if a threat is only perceived rather than real it's hard for the public to take it seriously and to therefore respect the stringent measures required to deal with it.

"Presumably" always means an insane suggestion is about to follow... that was never actually said.
Once it was confirmed there... personally, I would not have allowed anyone in, until I knew they were clear for a month. I don't care how over- cautious it might sound. We could have kept it out of Britain, if we had wanted to.
