Does he really think that banning flights from the Schengen area is going to limit Covid cases in the USA? Has no-one told him that Covid is no respecter of boundaries? Of course he wouldn't want to include flights from the UK in the ban as that would upset his mate Boris. I despair of his intelligence.

TBH, the US has massive land borders with Canada and Mexico and a gazillion flights landing from gawd knows where every few seconds. Banning the Schengen flights is mainly a gesture, to be seen doing something in this election year. In the modern world measures necessary to stop the spread of a disease is likely to be more damaging than the disease ever could be. Ebola for example, did we lock down when we first heard of that? much more deadly yet we didn't did we?

" - no but it would have been impossible to stop them landing in all the other countries and then it would find its way here. With modern transport and people movement it is impossible to stop an airborne virus. The best we can do is what we are doing.

I deliberately didn't criticise Trump earlier because I could tell that he was afraid of the situation. But it's still reasonable to say that there's no point in banning flights from Schengen countries. The disease is already in the US, and already widespread there. This action, then, serves little to no purpose.

Furthermore, if what they said at the Downing St news conference is true, and up to 10,000 on the UK are probably already infected, then it makes it seem even more pointless.
