For once he would be right to stop the Christmas free-for-all. He might then come across to more people as a leader.

I'm with NJ and Naomi et al. Running away and hiding from the virus isn't the answer. We must find some way of confronting it head-on. The vast majority of people are not at serious risk from it; they are at far more risk from the measures being currently taken.
fine then what. One has to hope that many act responsibly but its obvious that some don't no matter the message
Jack i tend to agree, but many won't
I'm with Jd on that, didn't see Naomi's post
she said pretty much what NJ has said, that we will have to learn to live with it.
They're right, we will , being pushed away to hide from it clearly hasn't worked
no it hasn't so far and we have been in one type of lockdown after another for how long?
Consent and cooperation haven't worked, no one has the cojones to accept the deaths of large
numbers. of our weak and elderly that living with it unrestricted would involve as it would require a decision of , no heroic healthcare for those unlikely to survive, multiple existing health problems etc so the nhs could continue to treat things other than Covid. This would have been my preferred option as it also has a beneficial effect on the health and social care demands in the longer term. We have a time bomb in terms of an ageing population not just here either Covid may be natures way of saying the normal progression of life to death is being corrupted by humankind demands for delaying death at any cost. We are meant to be born, breed, die like any other animal. Not be born, breed, live in for almost double our reproductive years for much of that time restricted by age or infinity a burden on a society, or the previous generation.
whether we have a 2 day or 5 day break it doesn't really matter, some are going to get this virus, its awful to say but it does appear those most at risk are those with underlying health conditions. I know Bobbi your friend that died may not have, but it does seem the elderly are in the forefront. There doesn;t seem to be any stats out there that confirm that fact though.
Yes, I agree. I'm 70 next month, had a good life, and am prepared to take the risks.
Its unfair on the younger generation to wrap me in cotton wool at great expense to the detriment of the quality of their own lives.
but it doesn't seem as though the young are getting this virus, seems to be the older generations,
They are usually asymptomatic. Spreading it but not suffering from it.
Emmie , my young friend won sadly died from it was in the ' unlucky' bracket I'm afraid , he was an asthma sufferer although not acute
*who*
Rowan not sure i agree, children died from whooping cough, scarlet fever, once upon a time, those have been eradicated, man has to try and stop these types of virus from spreading. Its true that man is living longer because a way has found a way of dealing with these types of one time killers. My grandfather died from TB, he like many didn;t get to old age. My mother all of 18 months caught TB and spent 18 months in quantine. TB has almost been eradicated but not quite
i remember Bobbi, but "most" who seem to be susceptable to this ccurrent virus seem to be the frail and elderly.
Polio similarly
But as has been pointed out many times, we have to lay the bills, people have to work and play, life must go on in spite of the risks.
and many more Bobbi, its in the nature of mankind to want to improve the lot of people surely
Also diphtheria, which took away many young lives.
