Uk Democracy Under Threat
I only became aware of this today, that the government has voter ID plans whereby in order to vote at polling stations, voters will be required to show official photo ID (such as a passport, driver’s licence etc).
Many people do not hold such ID and will therefore be disenfranchised as a result of this legislation which is likely to impact the poorer sections of our society. Quite why the Labour Party is not up in arms against such plans I don’t know.

I think UK democracy is under a far greater threat from voter fraud than it is from asking people to identify themselves when they go to vote. Of course what this will not address, as far as I can see, is postal voting irregularities. This was identified as one of the causes of fraud in the "Lutfur Rahman" affair in Tower Hamlets in 2014. Postal vote forms were "harvested" by Mayor Rahman's people and completed fraudulently by them. I'm not sure any new arrangements will counter that problem which stems from allowing postal votes on demand rather than requiring a valid reason for requesting one.
I really cannot see any problem in requiring ID to vote. The very few people who have no photo idea can obtain a document from the Local Authority.

“ that they did not permit postal voting in their elections as it was open to voter fraud.”
In fact the reason they might not allow it is because it’s a very inefficient way of organising mass fraud.
What they do in Russia is have “voting parties” where people do their voting in person but under the supervision of officials.
Or stuff ballot boxes after the observers have gone home.
Or simply make it up .

Hmm that posted on its own.
...You are against voter ID in the UK(apparently) but were unaware that it was already used in the EUSSR. Ever ready to criticise the UK and unwilling to see the many wrongs in the EUSSR. Not been a good few weeks for you then has it? You are part of the problem not part of a solution.
