airlines get fined if they transport people that are not allowed into the destination country. It is in their interests to reduce these fines. Not these days. Self booking, self check in, self baggage check, self boarding (in some cases) These days in aviation, the first person may well be the cabin crew member at the door of the aircraft.

so how do you think you are identified by the machine? to the extent that a boarding pass can be issued? They scan the passport on the page that is designed for every machine in every port in the world to read! The machine or the person at the check in desk essentially do the same thing, check id, check valid ticket, check eligibility to fly etc. Gawd elp us!

how? the first line says "identify yourself with your id or passport" - how does the machine do that other than by scanning the passport?

It says that in the pictograph but even then, the important words are, "OR ID", using a passport is optional.

You don't need a passport on the way out, nobody gives a toss if you're leaving they only want to know who's coming in.

in all honesty i havent been on a plane for around 4 years, but i'd be more likely to believe SJ on these matters who i believe until quite recently worked in aviation
