Is the criticism currently being levelled at Commissioner Philip Allott justified, or is he simply speaking common sense?

I think few people, if confronted by a policeman would be sure of their legal footing. Seems like an example of victim-blaming.

danny - // Women need to be streetwise to a certain extent ... // And that statement simply adds to my argument. Why do women have to be 'streetwise to a certain extent', when men clearly do not? And is that acceptable? My point is that they should no more have to be streetwise' than any men, and that society thinks it's OK to confirm that they should, is what is wrong...

douglas - // Staggering, absolutely priceless, thank you. :-) //

I have no idea, nor do I particularly care, why you are pursuing this line, or why you find yourself so rapturously entertained, but hopefully this is an end to the matter.

Maybe your visit to the pub enables you to comprehend what douglas is after, or indeed talking about - you seem to share a liking for derailing arguments involving me personally.

But since I am not remotely interested, I hope you won;t clutter up the thread with any kind of explanation.

Neither I, or as far as I can see, anyone else, is remotely interested.
Would love a night in a pub with Doug...you less so, andy.
Not so much 'less so as not at all Roy.

I'm sure you understand.

Goodnight.
Andy, you are like a Jack Russell with a bone. You never seem happy until we all agree to agree with you.

Most of the times women are harassed by men in the street it is wrong but no big deal. Most crimes against women seem to be by someone that they know. Domestic Violence!

Men are statistically more at risk of serious harm in the street than women. woman

Part of the reason for this is that most males are decent human beings who would never consider harming a woman.

Are you sure that he's not simply responding to points others have put directly to him?

In a debate such as this who do you think should remain silent?

Mansplaining?

Definition: "to explain something to a woman in a condescending way that assumes she has no knowledge about the topic"

???
Sp. I am not a great debater. I listen to the views of others and accept that is how they feel.

Andy is at the other end of the spectrum.

Sp

Douglas saw that there were two different spellings of the word Mansplaining and Mansplaning
Wolf - You regard the harassment of a woman as 'no big deal.

But then you are a man, so you have no idea what harassment is like.

I would be ashamed to post a comment like that, it simply underlines every single thing I have said.
Wolf is not a man
That makes it worse then!
sp \\ In a debate such as this who do you think should remain silent?//
Why should anybody remain silent, do you only want replies from people who agree with you?
Wolf - you say that when a woman is harrased in the street, quote ' ... mostly it is wrong ...'.

Can you explain the circumstances when it is 'right since in your mind they appear to exist - ?

Not what Wolf said

You know that

So rule without the 'so'
Context - Wolf said.

//Most of the times women are harassed by men in the street it is wrong but no big deal.//

I take that to mean te laddish verbals, hello darling type stuff and not a more sinister approach, unnerving but soon over and no, even that shouldn't happen ideally.

I'm sure she'll correct me if I am wrong.
Roy - I don't think there is any circumstance where a woman being harassed is acceptable.

Wolf clearly does, because her view offers a 'maybe in it.

I am asking what the maybe(s) is / are since she clearly indicates that she knows what they are.
Mamya, you may be right.

I think it's unacceptable because it makes harassment and absence of respect ok in the eyes of society, and that's not good for anyone.
Andy
I am a realist, to get through life in one piece you have to develop a thick skin and a sense of humour. As mamya says, most of it is banter. It is annoying but rarely is there any ill intent. A drunken comment by a male friend or an ill thought out joke.

In the past, when I was young building sites were not somewhere where would go near. Now it is different.

Yes, some males don't understand th e situation from a female point of view. But girls are tough and on a day to day basis we get on with life.

Domestic Violence is something else and it needs to be addressed. The males are not always the violent ones.
