If the LibDems consistantly win Tory seats, then the 80 seat majority can be whittled down.
There seems to be a pact operating. The LibDems didn’t fight for Batley, and Labour didn’t fight for N. Shropshire.

Gully he’s two years into a five year term ,still has 78 majority , now even if he’s forced to step down because of a VONC from his own back benchers , you’ll still have a Tory government, why else did N Shropshire vote Lib Dem? It was a protest vote , yes against Boris but they didn’t swing to Labour did they? if any ship has sailed ,it’s the Labour Party , it’s dead, gone , get over it !

I would be concerned if I was a Tory politician that a lot of those people won't come back.
Even if people in places like that won't support Labour, if they are happy to see the Tories out of office come 2024 or whenever, it won't stop them, or more significantly people in seats with smaller Tory majorities, voting tactically.

The loss yesterday had nothing to do with the bad hand Johnson's apparently been dealt, and everything to do with the self-inflicted wounds -- of the foolish attempt to defend Paterson in the first place, and then of the hypocrisy surrounding all the various lockdown parties, the denials and the lame excuses.
The public are fully capable of allowing any Government leeway in a time of crisis, which explains why for most of the last 18 months support for the PM and the Government has been pretty high; only in the last weeks has it shrunk, because of the straight-up blunders. Such mistakes are very likely to be more relevant in a by-election than in a General Election, though.
