But I apologise to drifting away from the topic raised by the OP. This is an awful story. The worse I’ve heard since that poor policeman who was dragged to his death a few years ago.

Horrible - but the CCTV images are (for once) very clear. Hopefully he’ll be turned in very soon…then we’ll get some answers as to what caused this (my first thought was mental health / schizophrenia like that teenager who threw the little kid off from the third floor of the shopping centre a couple years back).

You can only be stopped and searched without reasonable grounds if it has been approved by a senior police officer. This can happen if it is suspected that: serious violence could take place. you're carrying a weapon or have used one.
